It's funny but I saw this as a nice gesture to thank these services, as they put their lives at risk on a regular basis. It's nothing to do with pay scale just a thank you.

There are many Nhs workers below a band 6 that are not nurses. So no, I don't think the offer should be solely for RCN members, the Nhs is run by a team 😊

As a nurse and RCN member i appreciate the gesture to all Nhs staff who give greatly to the service, I couldn't do my job without them and many are on a small wage.

Well Said. My wife is a Health Care Assistant on a extremely busy ward on band 2, which is pretty much minimum wage. Please, lets stop the who should get what and lets just appreciate that a company is willing to give something back to groups of hard working people over the festive period.

Excluded the HM Forces....well done.

Nice one Iceland . Heat.

What dates are 'the festive period' I fear getting to the front of the till and the staff member looking at me blankly!

well done

Good on them.

May be we won’t be called when floods happen again.

It's a security risk if the Feds show their badge, innit ?

Lifeboats are there for floods, don't worry

This is a nice thing to do but the first time I am actually hearing about it. Is it legit? Maybe it is just certain areas or something. Might be overlooking something myself, who knows.

Team LOL enough Trusts to make a division alright I’ll give you that.

I don’t agree with public service pensions being more than a workplace pension nor public sector staff discounts - the majority of people are not on wages near a public employee wage and dependent income on tax credits and housing support yet most have minimum wage, no pension nor national discount scheme. It’s called equality - not about public service employees that are now the middle class. Public service should be exactly that, same Workplace pensions - if you choose a private on top then that’s a good choice.

They cancelled the forces discount card a while ago

I think it’s a nice Gesture but there are also people that are working well below minimum Wage but I guess they can’t really prove it .Winter and Xmas is a terrible time for Emergancy Services I won’t go on about the Political issues but there’s a lot of desperate people out there and the Emergancy Services have to deal with them so many Public Services simply can’t keep up and go home at 5pm Monday to Friday Thanks for the Deal

Nice one Iceland. MUCH better than spending (wasting!) millions on your Xmas TV ad !

Stop winging, get a better job that does pay same as public services, or if you can’t beat them join them.

Nurses, police etc do an excellent job.

And what about the people living on the streets that had a home that's now been taken away because they can't find an agency to find them work. But lets look after the people that don't need looking after. Cold from me despicable.

They don't get enough perks for the work they do so well done Iceland I hope more retailers do the same

What next? 10% off for black people. white people, Asian people.
I hate this type of discrimination.

Took the words out my mouth and for the work they do it's not all that much compared to other salaries for much less admirable work

I think you need to do some research on what the word discrimination actually means

Prejudicial treatment of different categories of people.

It is discrimination.

Agree maybe there should be a distinction between all that work within the nhs and frontline staff . Most office based managers etc will not work christmas/new year or nights. Most nurses paramedics drs hcas domestics porters etc will, like myself, never had a Christmas or new year off in many many years and cannot take leave at this time to ensure the safe running of the nhs. We expect to have to do this, it's part of the job. To get a little bit of recognition is appreciated. Regarding Pensions agree they are good, my understanding is it's been proven working shifts/ internal rotation/nights/ long days/early/lates in addition to being in a stressful job shortens your life span by something like ten or fifteen years meaning we don't actually live long enough to claim vast amounts. I'm pretty sure that's why the nhs wanted to keep it's own pension 'in house' as such, rather than merging with all public sector pensions. I believe the nhs pension was 'in credit' due to their members not claiming for as long.

I worked public service, surrounded by people with a lack of common sense and the inability to deal with situations in a appropriate manner or understanding or application.

That’s a broad descriptor, that’s like saying all Talk Talk staff are excellent - fact is most organisations have few excellent staff, some good and many mediocre. Spouting the political line is propaganda that you have well & truely been brainwashed by, public services have been a joke for decades, again let the propaganda make you believe it’s all the financial crashes fault when they have been falling to bits for decades and decades before.

Tory brexit will privatise everything to worldwide companies anyway so public staff are away to find out how the other 60 million really live with employment anyway as it’s the share price that counts, £350 million for the NHS lol, only a fool that would believe that our public services ALL do a excellent job would believe that. Propaganda isn’t exclusive to Trump or a dictator led country.

UK couldn’t even put a judge on a international panel for the first time since 1946, open your eyes people the U.K. as a empire only existed due to barbaric behaviour and the empire is dead, let the empire led hangover propaganda go

I agree, but cutting ‘management’ & consultants wages and public service discounts to pay the nurses more is the way forward not the diabolical shambles that has been going on for decades - and frankly they being the backbone of the NHS should have priority council housing because they would also bring much needed resources, spirit & community to the areas they live in.

I have met a lot more unprofessional/rude ‘highers’ than nurses in the NHS, maximum versus minimal. Nurses know compassion, above that they know how to check a 3 month window tick.
