Out of stock

Scan have them for £97 in stock

does this create it's own filesystem like the sc101 or not? Might be tempted to pick one up from SCAN.

I'd rather go for Thecus N299 - 99.82 from Scan.

Now that's hot...

But don't some sites want you to use a certain client, in which case these would be no use for bittorrent use?

read this and i'd be surprised if anyone bought the Thecus N299

Not sure about the other Icy Box unit.

I read that and it doesn't surprise me at all. Anyone who is expecting 1Gb troughput from 100 quid NAS is in the wrong market. Even fastest consumer NASes, like DNS-323 are only able to provide you with 8-10MB or so, not much more than that. Most of these things don't even come close to 100Mb limit, nevermind 1Gb.

As to spindown - this might or might not be a problem. It depends on what is your view on it. If you want energy saving, then yes, this is an issue, which might be corrected by using disk configuration tool (on PC). If you want faster response and do not want to wait a minute or so, then that's how it should be.

Can't find an English review on the icybox but I'm very interested

Have an NSLU2 at present - Icybox seems a good upgrade.

Well.. if the review is true, then IcyBox is faster than Thecus, Synology, Linkstation and Terastation to name just a few. Something I wouldn't expect from Raidsonic, TBH

NSLU2 is slow, I know... I have more than 2TB on it and moving large amount of data is pain

when its in stock it needs to be unexpired

It comes up as £104.56 from Overclockers. You'd rather get free delivery from Scan and buy it off them - save yourself 7 quid
