IdeaPad 5 14ARE05

£409 base price. £499 with the bells and whistles

Make these selections for this price.

3494626.jpg
Notes:

57wh battery is £10

Backlit KB is £10

128Gb basic, 256Gb is £20

4Gb ram basic, 8Gb is £20

Standard display is TN. Basic IPS display is £20 with as far as I can find, 51% gamut. Good for clarity, bad for video editing. If you want video editing then the next step up is another £30 to an acceptable IPS for that kind of work.

Can go with AX connectivity for £10 more, I didn't include as AC is basic and AC is fine for most of us.

Pretty sure that this will have shipping delays like other Lenovo orders recently, I just had a look and did good configuration and the shipping was over 6 weeks !!!! Too long to wait for me which is a shame

I know. I bit the bullet anyway as it's for my mother's birthday which is a ways off yet. Part of the reason I went for the cheaper IPS. Less strain on her working in the living room through the pandemic if she gets good viewing angles and decent contrast.
I am no expert but Huawei deal posted for £519 has a ryzen 5 processor which should be better..
4300u is not all the bells and whistles DOH!

4300u is not all the bells and whistles DOH!

4300u is very good compared to equivalent entry level parts such as 1005G or 1035G.

The bells and whistles are the backlit KB, IPS screen and large battery under 500£ new.

Unless you want to point me to a better device with these things at this price?

Hell, get me better performance than the 4300u, 8gb, 256gb, IPS screen and ignore the rest. Come back when you've found one.

Not everyone is looking for a gaming device.

Pretty sure that was TN screen and no backlit but it's certainly a contender. Loath as I am to hand money to Huawei.

No, that's the Intel i5-4300u.

This is the AMD Ryzen 3 4300u.

Totally not the same thing though I agree the naming is bad.

Biggest issue I had comparing the old laptop to new was that the i5-4300u is benchmarked in the same time period as my old i5-450m and every time I looked for comparisons that's what showed up.

There are some good reviews of this exact device however which sold me on it, particularly how the R3 4300u performs compared to some of the current 10th gen i7s.

I work pretty close to the medical field over here in Ireland and I can definitively say nope.

There'll be some element of restriction in play until at least Christmas, longer if the US elects agent orange again.

Also expect health insurance costs to spike if you hold it. Wait times for medical services to extend and your NHS budget to be even more stretched.

Pandemic management is in for at least the next election cycle.

The UK is playing with fire, the US is bathing in gasoline, and the rest of us are amazed that Brazil could be even worse.

Expect round 2 covid boogaloo in September at the latest.

With the restrictions lifted and social distancing now seemingly a distant memory it's only a matter of time until infections kick off big time...

I would choose the Ryzen 5 4500 as RAM & SSD are upgraded automatically.

"Please note: 8GB and 256GB will automatically be selected with this processor, at an additional cost."

edit: I think with the 4500 it can take up to 16GB if you need to upgrade later.

Past experience with lenovo products have helped me to decide that, due to the batteries being of poor quality and not fit for purpose, I will not be purchasing anything lenovo again.
Not to be be confused with the ideapad c340 that is a convertible 2 in 1 laptop / tablet and around the same price.

I bought one about a month ago. They use the previous gen processor and now have limited option as many oos.

Depends on what you buy. If you are buying a cheap product without looking at the battery size then ofcourse it won't be good.

Besides you can always upgrade the battery.

I have a Dell laptop with terrible battery. iPhones in genaral have poor battery life.
No decent ThinkPads?. These look cheap .. used to be really nice looking , Lenovos

Aren't you the dude who trolls every Lenovo post to say the same thing over and over? Getting to the point of spam tbh.

Or that my experience with lenovo products, and reading some posts - the same for other people, has been bad.
So why would anybody who had more than 1 or 2 poor items from the same brand choose to buy that brand again? A lot of people would be put off.
Highlighting it to others allows them to read about the good and the bad about a product, and so make up their own mind. You could name these views..... maybe call them "reviews"? Sounds like a decent enough word to use. You never know, it might catch on using this word for such views of previous purchases.

I think that’s fair. This is my first rodeo and I wouldn’t be re riding the bull. It’s only because the deal is so good I’ve held on so long. I suggest to everyone review on trust pilot or even check trust pilot at the terrible reviews.

No. From the configuration options, select the R5 4500 instead of R3 4300.
Huge wait times... But I did it anyways. One of the only laptops around with these new AMD chips. Got the 256gb, IPS, 16GB ram for future proofing and the 4700u for the slightly better GPU for £560. Wish I'd have seen the double discount before though! Only got 10% off. Fingers crossed it shows up sooner rather than later

Alternative in the same price bracket for the backlits and IPS.
