Please don't vote cold just because you are anti Apple and associated products. This is a genuinely good deal for a fantastic quality speaker. Votes should be based on the quality of the deal and nothing else.

The long awaited iW1 speaker came out here at the beginning of November, priced at £299.99. The price has now quickly dropped to £234.99 on amazon (a little bit cheaper via sellers, but that's down to if you choose to trust them over amazon).

This speaker will wirelessly play all the music on your iPhone/iPad or iPod via AirPlay. It can also pull or push music from your iTunes on your computer. The speaker is rechargeable so can be picked up and taken anywhere around the house as long as it remains connected to your home network you can beam your songs to it.

The speaker also accepts input via an iPhone sync cable fr when no network is available and can also use a 3.5mm aux cable for any other device that has a headphone socket.

I realise this will probably go cold from the anti Apple brigade, but it really is a good deal for those of us with i devices looking for an airplay speaker. (and there are an awful lot of us)

And why is that? This is not just a novelty item it has a good sound comparable to a B&W Zeppelin but that is almost twice the price. If you can post me another speaker of equal functionality at a lower price then I would love to see you try.

Care to elaborate?!

Would you say its a bigger waste of money than say, a Clarke Wireless Weather Station??? Man! I need a weather station.....

I see he isn't brave enough to justify his comments. I just wish people would grow up and vote for the deal and not because it is made for Apple devices.

Anyone voting cold care to say why??

"Please don't vote cold just because you are anti Apple and associated products."

Apparently it hasn't occurred to you that many people regard Apple products as overpriced, style-over-substance, poseurs toys, and therefore poor value. Being "anti" something isn't always simple prejudice. Sometimes it is based on a legitimate judgement.

If one feels that Apple products are wildly overpriced in the first place, it is perfectly reasonable to regard even a sharp price reduction as insufficient to make the deal a good one. That said, voting is largely meaningless on this site. I never do it, and I urge others to abstain also.

So post a similar spec speaker that does exactly the same thing at the same sound quality, that is not made for an i device, for less than this and we can call that a deal.

The fact is, this is a good deal. It is not an overpriced speaker in the first place, unless you count the price hike we have to put up with on every item of electronics. This speaker is £299 in the Apple stores and on many other websites. This is a good price and those who know it is will have already gone and bought one. I hope my post has at least helped a few people save £65.

I see no reason to comply with your strict limits on my speech. There are hundreds of add-on speakers for mp3 players or phones, in all price brackets. I feel that paying more than about £50 quid for any of them is overspending, given the audio quality of the average mp3 file. This one's main appeal (see what I did there?) is its Apple interconnectivity, and they are charging all the market will bear for that. The fact that the Apple user market will support this kind of price is a tragic commentary on a large segment of mankind.

This is not just a simple add on speaker of the £50 or less category. This is a high end portable speaker, for which you would pay this price for whether it was for an apple product or any other device. Yes, there is a slight premium for the airplay function, but that has been wiped out by the fact that this is a deal at £234 and not the full £299 asking price. Bose and B&W make similar sounding products for much more money and would charge as much as they do even the ones that aren't for using an apple product with. This speaker is rechargeable and portable throughout your house or anywhere else you wish to take it. It is nothing like the crap you see in HMV or the majority of speaker docks that have appalling sound quality.

To criticise MP3 as being a poor sound quality is a misunderstanding of what this product is for use with and also fairly misinformed. iTunes files come in at 256kbps, anything over 198kbps is considered unoticable to the human ear. However, should you really claim to notice the difference then you would be the sort of person willing to spend thousands on a decent sound system and would also not want to play mp3 files through a decent set up like that anyway.

So, once again i will lay down the challenge to prove this is a bad deal compared to what else you can buy (for any mp3 player) at this spec. In my book, £60 off the price that you could have paid for this a month ago is a good deal for anyone who has been looking and waiting for this speaker.

Um, LongPockets? You seem to be making some interesting arguments against Apple products. I don't really want to argue one way or the other because I think the whole fanboy/hater thing is puerile. I just wanted to point out something that's escaped your notice: that this isn't an Apple product.

I don't think much of the negative voting has anything to do with the 'why buy Ford when Kia are such good value?' anti-Apple brigade. It simply looks at a glance like a very expensive paper shredder. End of story. I'm sure it sounds amazing. You should've probably offered a link to a review. I haven't voted either way, as I genuinely have no idea if this is good value - I use an Airport Express with a Denon stereo for my Airplay needs.

I was commenting more on the OPs attitude to other's opinions based on the idea that anyone who voted cold must be subject to unreasoning "anti Apple" prejudice. However, even though this isn't made by Apple, it is made to work primarily with Apple products and suffers from the same aspirational pricing in my view.
