iHomePhone Worlds First Android Home Phone -Argos £99.99

Wont be many of these left - Will make a kool xmas present

The Binatone iHomePhone has been announced, and its makers are claiming that it is the world's first Android-powered home phone.

Running Android 1.6, the iHomePhone is made up of a DECT digital cordless phone, with Wi-Fi b/g/n on board, a microSD card slot and a 2.8-inch, 320 x 240, touchscreen display.

Built-in you'll get a YouTube app, a contacts manager, an email client, a picture viewer, an MP3 player and a personal organiser. It also functions as an internet radio and has an RSS feed reader.

Battery life is 8 hours for talk-time, 80 hours for standby, and it comes with a docking station that also has built-in stereo speakers.

There's two things that stand out with the Binatone iHomePhone. Firstly, what a simple and obvious idea. And secondly, there's no way the lawyers at Cupertino are going to be happy with that name - especially given that it's an Android touting device.

Available in time for Christmas, the Binatone iHomePhone will cost £99.99.

In order to make it the future, it would have to have:
1. answer machine
2. texting
3. google contacts
4. bigger screen
5. more memory

I do still want one though, if only for the geeky "I have an Android home phone" ability

one left in a store near me.....

Can it run Crysis?

That's me too - it seems the wrong price, for what I am assuming is a cordless phone, with a screen, that lets you do some internet stuff. I'd go for a decent panny cordless and an Orange San Francisco phone, running a more recent android version, for not too much more - I'm guessing £130 with discounts etc.

Voted cold as Its not realy a deal. Argos have had this for some time & its also been out of stock for some time. The price hasnt come down.

Either people cant stop playing with it or still trying to make it work!

Tigga!

android 1.6 ... sucks

Are they going to update this? For the money you might as well get a San Fransisco on PAYG and keep your existing home phone. Does it double as a mobile? (Assume not given the 30m range)

Does this mean that beards rule and tha'

I think i'm turning japanese, i think i'm turning japanese! i really think so

im not voting its not by apple if it had the apple ios then it would have been hot

A real dilemma now - there was one left in my local store. Got it reserved, and hopefully some of you guys will let us all know if it's cack or not before the reservation runs out.

Also one available in Hull and one in Lincoln if anyone's interested.

tempted to the lincoln one if its still available

i wonder what technology it uses for wireless audio, 802.11n? Or does it use the same technology as regular wireless house phones? This could possibly alter the audio quality and signal strength. Android 1.6 is rather old, 2.1+ would have been much better.

It's got an answer phone. But yes, no google sync (presumably the thing isn't a google-blessed use of android).

If it had that (syncing of contacts and calendar), I could see the value of it even with all the more silly features (internet radio, etc.) but without it it looks like yet another annoying gadget, though I guess there's a decent chance that its various functions would be discoverable at least to some extent. (I doubt I could add a phone number to my current home phone without significant fiddling.

They are trying to look like a mobile phone but they do not.

On the picture you see the phone with screen but you have to turn over to use the phone so that when you answer it the screen is on the reverse side.

And the speaker/mic. just look stupid, actual looks like a standard phone.

These were announced at the start of the year. N. America get the Motorolla version but it is still made by Binotone, looks worst but I think the speaker/mic. are on the proper side.

Anyone got a link for a manual, I'd like to read that.

Maybe it looks better in the flesh.
