I know billy bookcases have been posted before but as far as I'm ware no one has mentioned the bookcase with extra depth.
Saw this in ikea today, was only 6 left, massive reduction from original price but the doors were still full price at £45.

The oak veneer (80x39x202) was still listed at full price £80 but full glass doors were £25 each.

The oak veneer (80x28x202) is £20.

The billy range is being updated so some stock is being cleared with different prices in each store, e.g. oak veneer 39cm depth is £50 in ikea lakeside.

hope this helps.

Hot for me! I must check Ikea in Glasgow for it. Thx

They are £27.50 @ Ikea Milton Keynes

Do people still buy bookcases for books?

Unless, its unavailable in digital format I can't see myself buying a hardbook book ever again - Kindle and Google Books on a tablet and phone is just superb.

Surely having an actual book in your hands is a better reading experience though? Even if it's just for the smell of a book - you can't get that in digital format!

Not sure that's a Billy. Every one I've got - about 13 in the study and dotted around the house - is great quality, the backs are definitely not cardboard either!

Couple of strange comments there, for *cheap* bookshelves then Billy is good quality. I've got a couple that are still fine after more than 15 years and 7 house moves. Mine are not used just for books, kids toys, video games, DVD's, electronics all sit on my book cases.

Billy is terrible IMO, rip off for £80. But can't go wrong for £20. Heat

Maybe if you read more books your grammar would improve?

Good quality product. Reduction may be due to them making over this range. X

I'm surprised their supposed rrp is £80. I've bought quite a few of them over the years, and always paid not more than £20 each (I think).

I just gave away three two-year old ones to neighbors as I thought noone would pay for them more than £20 for new anyway.

This made me laugh, the answer is yes, because people still own books, and I'm not talking about the latest Ian Rankin or 50 shades of grey or whatever, I'm talking about old, and/or collectable rare books that people have amassed, they need a book case to put them in.

Did you also know that milk comes from cows that live on fields on farms?!

£20 is about all its worth. never worth £80 for a bit of chipboard and cardboard

IMO for 20 it's a steal would even pay 30-40 for it, the 39cm deep has a 40kg load limit per shelf so can be used for storage of all sorts. Plus they are so easy to assemble takes only 20mins.

This stock will be the old design to clear, the new design apparently is having more than a few changes

Here is what Ikea is adding to the Billy starting in August 2014:

• A more durable and scratch-resistant veneer that looks more like real wood
• The white finish will look whiter
• Shelves will be stronger
• Edges will be rounded to be more child-friendly (and more clumsy-adult friendly, too)
• More ways to customize your Billy, including glass shelves and extensions that allow you to adjust the height and door placement
• Fewer screw holes will show

We have other birch veneer stuff, bedsides long av unit, really good value stuff the construction means you can pimp into all sorts of units.

some really good examples on avforums.

I have 2 fot last 8 years and am surprised how long they lasted and still in good shape without me taking any care of what i throw at them. Conclusion: very good value for money if you are looking for a functional piece of furniture. Have to say the new darker oak colour looks quite nice and rich.

How is this down from £80? The standard Billy bookcases have been £45-£55 on the Ikea website for some time now...
