IKEA smart lights £69

From Techradar:

A press release from Ikea has revealed that its TRÅDFRI range of affordable smart lights will be compatible with the voice-controlled Apple HomeKit, Google Home and Amazon Alexa platforms some time in the latter half of the year.

The range includes a variety of dimming, sensing, and remote-controlled light fixtures, as well as a hub device called a ‘Gateway’ that allows for connectivity with your home’s network. Although the other options are semi-smart, the Gateway itself can control your lighting via a dedicated app and will soon support connectivity with other major home assistant devices like thermostats, door locks, ceiling fans and more.

Based on the response from the range’s announcement, the real boon of the Ikea devices has been their simplicity of use and installation, and relatively cheap price, considering competitors like the Philips HUE charge roughly double for comparable products.

So far the Ikea TRÅDFRI range is available in the US and UK

£69 for the gateway kit, which comes with two light bulbs one hub and one remote.

are these just hues of white?
Shame these aren't compatible with HUE.

Apparently they did work prior to a firmware update on the Hue bridges. I've seen a comment on the net that Ikea bulbs will be firmware updated to work with Hue bridges. Accurate or not I do not know. However I imagine the only way you could update firmware would be with an Ikea hub. The comment may have been complete rubbish anyway.

I'm interested in whether the motion sensors work with Hue bridges, as the Philips ones are £35.

Interestingly I noticed most of the Ikea Tradfri bulbs have adjustable colour temperature. To get the same with a Hue bulb you need to buy the £25 Ambiance ones.
They are apparently now Alexa controllable.
just to add that these also work a treat with Smartthings.
Not sure what the deal is here? They've been out for 2 or 3 months with Ikea and the prices have not come down?

Cheaper than Hue etc, and some additional features for the price such as colour temperature adjutable.

Ah yes I agree, cheaper than Hue. My hue set up is ok but its not worth the money, may sell some of it and go down the Ikea route instead.
I just thought this was a new deal/reductions since when the Ikea lights came out
