Amazon pretty much never lead, they follow. That is one reason why I'd rather buy from the store that did the deal in the first place.

paired this with a 1080 and it runs like a champ. PC Master race!
Do these work on any socket 1151 mother boards? I have this one currently with a i3-6100. Amd rx470 and 16gb ram. Will it make much difference to overall speed of the system and gaming? I can’t afford a gtx 1060 or above at current prices.

Yeah, decent priced as well. Another thing to note is with the pre-clocked CPU's - OcUK only offer one-year warranty on the preclocked ones. At Caseking they offer two-year warranty.

Officially no, you need a new motherboard, currently only the Z370 line. The B and the H motherboards are supposedly coming soon.... there are videos/articles of people getting it running on some other socket 1151 motherboards, but that's with a bunch of tinkering I think...

Thanks for the reply. Won’t bother then for now as don’t want to spend more getting a new mobo etc.
Cheapest and best of the Coffee Lake bunch, 370 boards are a bit high at the moment and i suspect they will end up the processor version of Win M E, i dont care though, just got a prebuilt with one, bream o the crop for gaming with a 1060. So good i decided to build one, then cards and mammary went tits up silly prices, such is life

I though even with the tinkering (more like full mods really), they only managed to get the i3-8100 working. Since the Coffe Lake i3s are basically Skylake/KabyLake quad core i5s but these hex core actually new (still same microarchitecure as SkyLake/KabyLake thougH), that's no surprise.

Intel do seem be in full panic mode with their response to Ryzen as CoffeeLake and the Skylake-X before that are their least polished launch in years and years.

Still, this is very good value so AMD are probably glad that Intel still haven't launched the 'new' B and H chipsets. As paired with £45 B350 board this offers even better value than with now when the cheapest Z370 boards is around £90.

Wasn't the latest rumours that the CoffeeLake B350 and H370 (and the business Q370 I guess) chipsets are actually going to be something new whereas Z370 was basically the old Z270 chipset with new specs for the mobo vendors to design new boards with the right pin-out and current supply for the hex cores? And apparently there will eventually be a new Z390 chipset too with the features of new B350/H370/Q370 but designed for the rumoured octo-core CoffeeLake CPUs?

Just spotted it!
Great wee CPU

My framerate on GTA 5 went from 35 FPS to 86 FPS on my GTX 1060 when I upgraded from my Q9450 Quad Core.

Tempted but with lack of cheap itx mobos .. well...
Should be fun when/if b350 launch as I'm sure quite a few will buy the wrong version amd/intel

No only on the latest z370 motherboards. Probably won't make much difference
Probably the best price/performance CPU on the market.
would this be ok as NAS for running 6 or 7 streams of 720/1080 on plex??
i currently have an i5 4690K OC'D at 4.4ghz. Would it be worth upgrading to this?

Also something fishy about this comment
The Intel "B350" motherboard will actually be called B360 as AMD have already taken the name B350 for their motherboards.

I'm currently using the 4690 non-k and it's certainly an upgrade for me... check this cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…432
Thanks!
Great CPU, especially at this price! I paid closer to £190 for mine before Christmas and was delighted with it at that price.

Paired it with a 1060 mini for a SFF sitting room PC and it breezes through anything I throw at it.
there's one new one on eBay for £135 if anyone's interested in snapping that up instead. OEM so no heatsink/fan. -£5 collection from Bournemouth

Noo what do I do now buy this or wait for the new Ryzen 2 chips coming in the next 2-3 weeks
£158.26, has been for a while.I looked for another reason earlier.
The ryzen+ R5 2600 i going to be too much better all round so I wouldnt buy the 8400, but its a good chip at sub £150.

The (RYZEN + , actually) chips will cut into intel's lead generally in gaming but the very improved cross core/cross CCX latency (30%) improvements should help iron out those games that perform poorer on ryzen. I would deffo wait for some reviews. An R5 2600 at 4.3 gig is gonna be a fab gaming chip.

You are right I am certainly going to wait for the reviews. I am interested in the new Ryzen ones as I want a dual VMWARE (maybe eSXI) and also a gaming rig. I think I can dual boot ESXI on a usb or seperate disc for lab work.
wow
I now feel pretty stupid paying £300 for a 7700k a year ago
