Thought this was pretty decent, especially for being in 4k and HDR.

Is there much difference in quality between digital and disk? I've been tempted to go digital due to not really having the best equipment to showcase 4k and hdr ( Samsung 40" mu6400+xbox one s)
Im sure some tech nerd will give you an answer stating disc is better, but realistically its basically the same. When you factor in the price, you cant really beat digital when its on offer.

One thing you will learn is that HDUK has ALOT of digital haters who will no doubt flood this thread with the same boring comments. They just fear change and the loss of thier armchair command posts.

Sound is definitely better on Ultra HD also, picture is a little better IMO. Also, depends on your equipment but for most people the Apple TV 4k is fine. Have made comparisons to both and having the convenience of digital and taking up no physical space is a win win. Plus the prices are much better than physical - on iTunes anyway.
Just as a general enquiry, how big are the downloads for these or is it streamed ?
I would suggest anyone who is between going for disk or digital to watch this video
. UHD disks are better but only marginal compared to iTunes downloads. I personally went for Apple TV 4K as the films are much cheaper as usually £4.99 region whereas Disks are typically £20.

Its streamed if through an Apple TV, but you can download to iPad, iPhone, PC and Mac. The download of HD The Revenant is 6.6GB but obviously 4K will be larger in size and will vary depending on the movie
It was 4K I was really wondering about. I have just got fibre and we get 70Mb so I was wondering how big/long a download was or what was needed to stream decent 4K

You can’t actually download any 4K content on any platform (iMac, iPad etc..). You just get 1080p files with HDR color and contrast. All 4K films are streamed.
For those asking, 4K streams (especially Apple streams) are pretty decent picture-wise. If you actually watch the film (rather than looking out for picture defects) you will not notice any difference. If you start doing freeze-frame comparisons the UHD-BluRay will be better but why waste your life doing that? Sound wise is a definite win for the physical disc as Apple only supports up to 7.1 at the moment. They have pledged to support Atmos (7.1.4) in the future (and I'll wager the files already have Atmos tracks that aren't being used properly). Again, when this happens the physical disc will technically be better (lossless Atmos via TrueHD vs lossy Atmos via DD+) but will likely be immersive enough for 90% of the population.

Of course, this will look better than the DVD and Blu Ray versions.

Ah ok, didn’t know that as didn’t try to download the 4K version personally but I did know about downloading in general

Thanks for the replies, appreciate the help! One last thing,do you download these and then play them? or are they streamed? I don't have a very fast internet, (35mbps, adaquate for most things) would streaming still be a viable option?

Also it doesn't matter too much to me about audio, as I'm just using a Samsung soundbar, with some bookshelf speakers lol.

They are streamed. The faster the connection the better, Apple TV does variable quality as well dependent on internet connection so will downgrade or upgrade based on throughput.

Yes. A lot.

But on your Samsung it likely won't make a massive difference, especially if using internal speakers.

Possibly the most pointless video every made. Both the featured movies were mastered in 2k - neither are native 4k sources.

So he's comparing a 2k movie from disc with a 2k movie on streaming. Unsuprisingly there isn't a huge difference, they are both weak.

But regardless of what source its mastered from its still mastered from the same original master copy for both apple TV and UHD disc. I disagree that its the most pointless video ever made as many modern films only have a 2K master and the difference is only noticeable if you are very close to the screen. I have personally watched many 4K films on my Apple TV and UHD player and I personally do not notice much in it tbh

It's like watching a black & white film and deciding which looks best on two colour players. Utterly bonkers - neither of them will show colour.

I really don’t think it matters if you see a few less wrinkles etc when you are only paying £1 per 4k Dolby vision film compared to £15-£20 on disc

Do you pause and compare with a side by side setup?

What's so important over seeing these apparent extra wrinkles?

I don't mean anything mate, but coming in these threads and being negative about iTunes 4K movies, we get it, you like to stick to your discs because of the quality, and that's great. But we don't need to hear it all the time. Why even waste your time on the threads? Obviously have your right to do so, but honestly man.

You can't improve unless somebody tells you what is wrong. For years I lived with standard Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. I thought it was amazing and I would demo it for family and friends all the time. I thought "HD Audio" was a marketing gimmick that came with blu-ray. I didn't think the quality could be much better. I went from DVD, to blu-ray 1080 to 4k blu-ray and never thought the audio made much difference. Until somebody told me otherwise, convinced me to try it. I'm grateful for that as now I enjoy my movies like never before. They shared their experience and it benefited me, now I'm sharing mine in case somebody else might appreciate it and want to go to the next level.
