Heat added - I'm still deliberating over separates or a combo washer (I'm even toying with the idea of getting 2 combos so she doesn't have an excuse!). This seems to be the best price for a 1200rpm 9kg washer I have seen based on me looking in Argos, Currys and Google...

Yes, I prefer separates just because if it breaks then I cant wash or dry. But then combos are ideal for space saving I guess.

I didn’t like combo as the one I had you have to remove some clothes as they dry crinkled if you leave it all in the drum.
Also seemed to only dry very hot so things shrunk.
Now have two washers and a condenser dryer, perfick x

Appreciate the feedback - I knew there was a compromise with a combo, however it never occurred to me about the wrinkles or heat. Also I noticed a lot of them have different weights for washing & drying loads - does that mean you need to remove items after a wash before using the dryer?!
I was toying with the idea of 2 combo units to swap out my separates, however I think I'll just replace my separates now...Ah if only I knew a site I could visit that posted washing machine & tumble dryer deals...

I have seen a few of my friends stacking separates, seems to be a trend (especially in new builds that have utility rooms)...
Also I know 2 of my friends that moved into new builds recently that where turn key and had appliances already fitted - they then brought their existing separates. It's kind of strange as the appliances that came with the house where plumbed into the kitchen, yet they had blank slots for the same units in the utility room? Weird.
If you are looking at this consider a few things, they reliability record means you will need to pay the labour charge of £120 a visit but they will allow you to pay this for a year monthly after year 1. This means a claim in year 2 and you are up there with a 5 year warranty machine prices (when they are on offer which is lots of time) add on a claim in year three and it’s a very expensive machine.

The other thing is the dryer fiasco gone on for years and now the washer issues, which they knew about for years. The company has shown customers lots of contempt but yet they keep buying.

buy what you like but this can be a very expensive machine in the 10 years it has a parts warranty

I have appliance insurance already. I think any machine you buy can be a gamble, I've had my old indesit for 12 years with not one problem; which is similar but smaller drum.

Indesit are not the brand they were, and buying now simply shows you are happy for them to show the customer the contempt they have shown them for years. Not seen appliance cover for years and a quick google the prices for multiple cover seems expensive, especially if you buy good quiality appliances and you probably dont need need the cover.

But anyway, good luck in your purchase.

Separates. Combo's are very inefficient and don't seem to work for long.

You were extremely lucky, Indeshit, Hotpoint etc. Really aren't what they used to be. If you're going to buy cheap then buy Beko or Bush from Argos if you're really scrapping the barrel etc.
Trouble is they have now become a disposable item, cheaper to buy another, try replacing the drum bearing which only cost about £15 to buy. Cant do it, engineered so you have to renew compete drum cost £180 to 200, Shame on you manufacturers

To be fair it does depend on the model - the only problem with my current washing machine is the rust has caused the drum shocks to no longer be anchored, therefor on a spin cycle the whole unit goes into a violent thrash, sometimes resulting in the belt coming off. There are other minor hiccups, but nothing that really stops a normal wash...
