In response to an earlier deal, here's the original movie that the American remake 'The Departed' is based on...

Description:

Ming (Andy Lau) and Yan (Tony Leung) lead parallel lives: Ming is a Triad mole in the police department; Yan is a police stooge in mob boss Sam's (Eric Tsang) Triad gang. Both men have a desire to put their false lives behind them and to take up their rightful places in a society that eludes them. One night, during a police raid to bring down Sam's mob empire, the two men's paths finally cross. Both the police and the mob soon realise that there is a mole amongst them, and a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues. In this race against time nobody is safe, and the lives of everyone involved becomes threatened. In the meantime, Superintendent Wong (Anthony Wong) does his best to keep Yan's secret safe, but how long can the men's hidden lives remain undiscovered? The first in an explosive and internationally praised trilogy, Infernal Affairs sets a stylish benchmark for modern thrillers and broke all-time box office records in Hong Kong.

I'll sixth that:-D

The Departed is very overrated, it's a good film but the love triangle, numerous endings & Jack Nicholson's character makes it inferior to the original....

...and Scorsese needs to stop using The Rolling Stones on his soundtracks.

err...I 6th that

The Departed is good too, but this is even better and that's even with having to put up with subtitles/dubbing. The sequel is good too.

Edit: make that 7th

HAHAHA... why!? Of what benefit is this to me??? So we Canto speakers can "be friends" and "hang out"??? HAHA....

I've gotten my point across that Infernal Affairs > Departed. My participation in this tragic thread is over. Good night, good sir.

Andy Lau, great singer. Voted hot!

I ninth that.

I tenth that

Don't think much of the sequels though.

oh man, this craps all over that disgraceful remake. Buy it folks and see how Hollywood should leave legendry films well alone

Definitely not legendary. IMHO The Departed AND Infernal Affairs are each a little overrated in their own right.

This is a rare instance in which I preferred the re-make though. The pace was great, despite Nicholson trying to overpower everything. Dicaprio was excellent, following on well from The Aviator (a very good and underrated film).

Indeed, that's what prompted me to put it on here!

I saw Departed first and thought it was a good film - I knew nothing about it being a remake of IF. Then I rented IF some time later and realised how much better it was.

Still think Departed is good, but perhaps I'd think differently if I saw IF first.

Still can't believe 'Departed' got an award (think it was the ocsars), Very badly made imo
