I use Hermes all the time and luckily 95% of the time have never had an issue. Parcels delivered fine and on top of that 20% student discount. Must be hit or miss down to your local guys/depot.

Used inpost a few times recently too and no issues either. Last week i did have an barcode error, where it kept on opening a locker that already had a parcel in there, which did worry me, but customers services were great and sorted the issue straight away.

I have found that even if you buy the ain Post locker option, you can still drop it off at a Hermes shop.

Same, although I’ve stopped using RM now as their 24 tracked service is abysmal. Sent loads of parcels using that and on average it a taking 3 to 4 days for 24 tracked delivery. RM says it’s not guaranteed, which is fair enough, and they say since they now deliver the covid tests all the other parcel services are effected.

I am not sure if they have updated new method to check the availability of the lockers, but last time during the promotion the locker was full and you can only find out that when you were in front of the locker. Can be waste of time if the locker is not within walking distance. I ended up driving 10 miles to put it into a locker at another spot which luckily had space when I arrived.

It might be tempting to save a few pennies on your postage, but if it involves Packlink and things go wrong, be warned you will face a long, tedious battle to get compensation. I've just received settlement after 11 weeks for a package which was totally trashed by Hermes. The package was covered in Hermes tape, so very clearly damaged by them, but Packlink were still asking for more photos 6 weeks into the claim. Numerous unanswered emails, they expected me to email a copy of my passport/driving licence, insisted on completing an Affidavit full of legal gibberish (which contained references to legislation they couldn't even identify when asked). I was on the verge of taking it to the small claims court, but as their registered address is in Spain, wasn't sure that this would have been any quicker. My advice is AVOID PACKLINK. (edited)

    Not lost but stolen

Yes, totally agree, Hermes recruits thieves, my sold phone was tracked in Romania. Hermes delivers inPost parcels.

Don't use this, as others have said the parcels get lost/stolen (happened to me too)

Don’t do it, nothing but hassle and not much cheaper than Royal Mail

Hermes no no no no no.

Ok I’ll use them to return something to Amazon, but to actually send to someone…. nooooooo

Delivery day is a lottery, usually take days to weeks, only company I’ve ever had problems with “lost” parcels

Compared to say DPD with their 1hr slots, real time tracking etc Hermes are just awful.

    Cannot not recommend them enough

    UPS are literally the worst

They've been pretty good for me; out of nearly 3 dozen parcels I've sent with them over the past 12m I've only had an issue once (Item stolen from delivery location according to the buyer).

Surprisingly quickly too; ~50% arriving the day after drop-off, ~40% arriving the day after that, and ~10% taking longer.
Even in the run up to Xmas they managed not to disappoint.
For next-day, £60 insurance included, and up to 5kg, they're competitively priced too.

Never a single parcel missing out of hundreds. You must be the unluckiest person on earth.

    I've used ebay since 1999.

One parcel missing in that time. Royal Mail.

Avoid Packlink like a plague. Used Inpost locker a couple of times and all went well, but the last time my parcel has been opened, item removed and package resealed. Nothing wrong with Inpost but it is handled by Hermes which is its weak point. Hermes confirmed that the content parcel was stolen and Packlink approved my claim but then after almost 2 months asked for more pictures of the box, at which point the packing was disposed of by the buyer, and the money hasn't been paid back. Any idea what can I do? (edited)

I would use this for items worth £25 or less and if my buyers ready to wait for a week. About 5 out of 100 parcels will be lost, some will be take 2 weeks to deliver. Too much stress if it gets lost or delayed. Can take upto 30 days (official timeline) after claim date for packlink to refund you. If you send emails to packlink, no one responds. Apart from this, no problem at all.

Trust me or not I lost 43 parcels in a week…. . This happened when there were £1 offer in Nov.

Issue is not with them - It was Hermes who stole my parcels

All red feedbacks on 5 years old ebay account.

I wish I could sue then and they stop operating in UK.(mad)

Sent loads and never had a problem. Don't scrimp - pay the extra for tracked. Still cheaper than RM

Once got told by Packlink that my parcel wasn't covered for compensation because I used an Amazon box for the outside shipping box, and that the outside shipping box needed to be BRAND NEW to comply with terms and conditions.

No issues with Hermes and I send a LOT of parcels
    I don’t use the lockers
I did when the £1 offer was on - again no issues
Hermes counter prices are excellent - use the old site and your can add a student discount for even bigger savings
  23. Avatar
I have used these for about 3 months, about 100 packages and only had 1 issue, which was covered by insurance with minimal fuss. Personally find packlink good when something goes wrong and prefer traceability compared to RM basic services that you can't see tracking on

I think a lot of people misunderstand what services they are buying here. From my experience InPost appears to be more about “In it, for the post”, like “in it, to win it”. So you pay for postage thinking you’re quite the Alec saving a nice little shilling for yourself and your family. You travel to the lockers, thinking “I can’t recall seeing lockers there”. You arrive and to your surprise the thief station is elegantly camouflaged and hard wired with CCTV cameras making you feel great about the decision you made knowing your parcel is safe and the potentially greener option you chose. What you don’t realise is the official driver that comes to collect the parcel has shared his access codes with all of his mates at the rehabilitation centre, who in turn have shared them with their “suppliers”. Inevitably at some point you will be running around trying to claim your item back but don’t despair. During this time InPost/MyHermes employee’s and/or their friend’s get to unpack an endless stream of packages. After you claim your £20 back, please remember to slap yourself with a wet fish to prevent reoccurrence.

Glad you said this, I was just about to post the same and ask if it had happened to anyone else. I thought it was an error initially but afterwards realised there was probably enough room for my parcel in there too, so maybe it was by design when approaching capacity, obviously far from ideal but you need a valid parcel code to open the door so if the other one goes missing, they should in theory know who it was...!?

The whole process of selling on ebay is too stressful. Dishonest courier, dishonest buyers/sellers, expensive postal charges, high FVF fees, untrue listing descriptions, long queues at post office and so on. The day when I don’t sell anything on ebay, i feel great. Saves me from all this hassle.

Made me worried that it would be quite easy for someone else to come along and steal the parcel from the locker if same thing happened.I contacted customer services to alert them and they just said it was a known issue, didn't exactly reassure me.Reading this thread, I see other people have said the same thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of these missing parcels are due to other senders taking items from already occupied lockers, maybe not necessarily the couriers.

Good point although couriers also know the system so I can also see them
thinking that where there is more than one parcel in a locker, the one at the back is “fair game” as they know someone else has been in the same locker already.

I used one of these after selling an item on ebay. Went to the locker and one of the small ones popped open, the item was too big to fit. I tried it a few times and a couple of other lockers and still the same. I then went home, checked the dimensions and they were correct... cancelled it all and went to the Post Office. Will not use again

The £1 eBay / inPost lockers disaster deal of Nov/Dec, avoid this, parcels lost / stolen, inPost was dire, a dozen emails of "you need send this" "you need to send that", "we didn't receive the attached" etc, etc, zero compensation and angry buyers on the other side,. Nightmare

    Similar story for me.
Sent, went missing, requested investigation & return to sender if found, turned up at the destination 2 weeks later - long after the buyer had been refunded.
Thankfully I had an honest buyer who notified me.
Eventually got a refund from PackLink for the postage cost, though they refused liability for the return postage even though I'd requested the parcel be returned to sender.

I think the crux of the problem is that InPost use Hermes, so you're left chasing PackLink, InPost and Hermes; each blaming the other when things go wrong. (edited)

You've been very unlucky. I've been using them on and off for years. I'd probably rate them the worst of the couriers but they're much improved, of late.
Can't agree with "get the insurance". They make their money from selling insurance, not delivering parcels. Even if you do buy it, they'll do everything in their power to avoid paying out. In the long run, you're better off self-insuring. I.e. write off the occasional parcel. That'll be cheaper than buying their insurance.

That's literally what insurance is for. "Unlucky" events.
It's rather quite the opposite, if you DONT buy it, then they will do everything to fob you off. All issues with insured parcels have eventually been compensated. Otherwise I only got £20 max.
A 100% delivery failure rate is not compatible with "writing off the odd parcel". Far rather give up a small % of profit than get shafted with a whole loss because eBay will immediately refund the buyer.

I did this a few months ago, I dropped it off in the morning and it said 1-2 days delivery, quicker than if I dropped off the hermes parcel at the local drop off shop which I think was 2-3 days. It sat in the lockers for 2 days before they'd even collected it then took another 3 days. Won't be using it again, much quicker to drop off at the drop off shop myself and normally goes the same day and delivered a few days later. (edited)
