At a risk of this freezing to death, i thought this might put someones mind at rest particularly if you have a BMW or MINI affected by the timing chain issue highlighted on Watchdog.

Use code BELT12 for the extra £5 off the quoted price.
Covered for upto £2000

I have a 1997 audi with 170,000 on the clock.. can I get a timing belt insurance?

This is for years 2007 onward with the rear timing chain which requires an engine removal

2 grand wont replace a modern bmw engine.

yes on watchdog repairs were 4500-5000 ish

Well £3k is better than £5k
Anyway its up to you, if I had this model engine I would cover it

if i could afford anything other than my 16 year old bmw i would also take out an extended warranty that covers more than the timing chain, also for the full cost of repairs minus a small excess.

" Every time you start your car, you risk timing belt failure, or
timing chain failure."

I guess the best way to eliminate this risk is to never start your car

Why not just take court action if it happens, its known fault which BMW are aware of so sure you could sue in small claims court?

Plus cover is only to £2000 so expect a bill around £3000 to which if BMW refuse to pay then just start legal action.

Its what i would do and its so easy to take a company to small claims court and not a big hassle at all.

Shame, I wanted to get an 05-07 A4 2.0tdi but they also suffer from the chain tensioner failing and causing major damage or the oil pump drive shaft failing leading to engine starvation. It has put me off upgrading till I can afford an 08 or earlier but this would have been handy to have.

I have just checked the Policy Document and there is no reference to an age limit? Where did you see the 2007-?
