Nope its easy and probably easier on older laptops!!!

Just buy a cd/dvd removeable drive cartridge - installs where the dvd cd drive usually goes (if you have one).
I have one for my old Dell D630 and Dell D830 proprietary connector but haVE AN ORDINARY SATA ONE FITS my Dell E5530 so you can have two hard drives - great for quick backup and storing all yer data on.
OS on the main drive - 64gb is enough
Swap file and programs on the second 120gb drive and data backup etc

£3.16 on ebay!

Any way of finding out have much of the HDD is being used for programs so I know what size SSD I'll need? Thank in advance.

Cant see your laptop having room for two unless its really expencive and has 2 bays
you could buy this one and use it as an external drive using a enclosure off ebay around £4-7
I got the orico clear one so i can see the capacity (handy if you have a few)

Are these okay for recording 1080p gameplay? Are the write speeds fast enough?

If you don't mind having to reinstall your programs, then just follow the Microsoft fresh install guide microsoft.com/en-…esh
When asked for the install key just ignore it and the new install should activate automatically when you connect to the Internet.
Also worth noting that if you originally upgraded from a 32bit version, that you can now install the 64bit version.
Honest question- what do people use these for? To boot off? As I think it’s too small for storage?
@Chanchi32 Why did you repost this deal? It's still live on another thread with this same price.

Is it because you're a mod and wanted to draw more attention to the deal to get more affiliate money for HUKD?

It's sad what this site has become.

I paid £180 for one and it still works perfectly as well. I remember reading about how a high percentage of them failed.
is it possible to add this into a dell optiplex sff 3020 as a second drive? Any tech people out here to help me? Thanks

I've used clonezilla quite successfully before or you could download a trial of Acronis True Image & use that, trial is time limited only so should work for your needs here.

I have 3 of these drives used for the following:
- MicroServer: As boot drive with Win Server 2016 on it. Only used for the OS.
- Laptop: As one and only drive with Win 10 and Apps. Don't use the laptop for a lot more than browsing and basic stuff. Plenty of space still on the drive
- PC: As boot drive with Win 10. Have a normal 1TB drive (non-SSD) for all files/movies etc.

These drives have been excellent. No issues. Improved boot speeds massively and a lot quicker in general. At this price - its a no brainer!

So far so good.

I've been using one of these in my laptop for over a year an had no issues
Couldn't resist now they have come down so much. Hoping it will revive performance of an aging HP Pavilion G7

Is 120GB enough for Win 10?

Way more than enough, I know it's compressed but remember the install easily fits on a 16gb flash drive even if you pull down the latest iso with most updates built in. There's features that can be disabled to free up space, move swap file to a different drive, move all library locations to a mechanical drive (also with the argument of keeping user files away from the OS, amazes me MS still do things the way they do), keep clearing old update files away stuff like that to keep it TRIM (sorry )

My mini-desktop has a 64gb ssd (a very early model vertex 4). I use cloud services (Goodie Drive FS and Microsoft files on demand) so only keep important files locally. I've still got plenty of space left for Office and other software with 15gb of free space. It is possible

Another vote for the Orico enclosure. I have tried several of the 'USB3' enclosures but am usually disappointed that they don't work properly with poor speeds or disconnects. The Orico is the one that works really well at USB3 speeds and reliable performance for me.
Might be worth mentioning we had a whole batch of these ordered at my place of work and they failed one by one over a few months. Pretty sure it must have been a bad batch from the factory or something but like 90% of them just stopped working completelty

Many people use their laptops for web, email, office documents and the odd game of Spider Solitaire. 120gb is perfectly good for such machines. A lot of machines I see have less than 60gb used including the OS.

The OS won't need all the 120GB so you could just put this in a USB Caddy and access your data over USB3.

That's what I plan to do. Keep my OS and email on this 120GB SSD, for speed, then stick the 1TB HDD that I remove in a caddy, so I can get to files that I don't use often.

I'm running Ubuntu anyway, so I expect it to fly , even though it's a series 3 i5 processor and 'only' 8GB of RAM.
I don't understand why these are becoming so cheap - but I don't care! Have some heat!
Well actually I do care because I paid a pound more a fortnight ago ffs!

1. Decide if you want to do a straight swap, if so copy everything important from the old drive to an external or thumbdrive.
2.Download windows 10 onto a usb drive from microsoft.com/en-…s10.
3.Swap out drives and either a) use usb drive to install windows on SSD and then use that as standalone (install everything back onto it). b) as above, but Keep both drives if you have space, but go into the bios and select the SSD as the boot drive - this option is more complicated and may not work without formatting/douching windows on your original HDD. You'll probably need a caddy.
4. If you chose option a) your hardware should all be OK for windows 7/10 upgrade as it's not a too big a change (hardware wise).
price gone up to £19.49
Heat added... I have just ordered one from them (at £16.99), and received confirmation about 15 minutes later, in addition to the PayPal confirmation of payment
Guess I must have got in just before the price increase!
Edited by: "Montala" 7th Dec
I don't get this...

120GB P series original price £36.99 now £19.49
240GB V Series original price £85.99 now £27.98 (at which price looks like a steal)
240GB P Series 4 original price £78.99 now £44.99
240GB P series 5 price £59.99

So which to go for? I've got a Kinston 240GB A400 in another laptop which has dramatically improved its performance, so I'm looking to put a 240GB one into my old DELL (already upgraded to 16GB RAM) which runs both Win 10 and Ubuntu (though, TBH, more often Ubuntu)...

great price. Got one last week for more. Installed today to replace a failing Crucial M4 drive.
Don't forget to change from IDE to AHCI to get the full benefits!

Looking to replace my optical drive with hdd, with ssd as boot in normal place. But my laptop needs quite a bit of dismantling to get access.

So is it possible to get a cable to run from the data connector that would feed the optical drive (sata female?) To ext hdd (female data again?). Easier then to just pull drives off the cable and swap around. Possible?
Sorry is there a code to enter as I see the price as £19.49??
