I'm pretty sure I saw a pen drive for just under £100 posted today - surely those are going to be better for most than an ssd? Personally I'd rather have something pocketable and pretty quick than something large and a bit quicker
I was asking oposite question. I have had 5 or 6 usb sticks fail on me. In 6 years I have 0 ssd fail. Also ssd read write is much faster (in real life) and amount of data I have written to ssds is 1000x more than I store in usb sticks. Yet no ssd fail as of yet

They are for different uses really. Pen drives have pretty terrible 4k random read and writes often around 10MB/sec. They are fine for moving video files around but you wouldn't want to use them for an Operating System or for games installs on a console. In comparison a SSD will have 4k random reads and writes in the hundreds of MB/s.

Personally I wouldn't be running an OS from a portable SSD - all mine are internal, so that's not an issue for me, nor are game installs. But if that's your usage then fair play. Portable storage for me is all about convenience.
