Great price. I have 2 slots for m.sata in my Linux laptop Dell e7240.

Even better price (possibly) if you’re eligible for this promotion and then buy a €30 gift card (which you can then apply to the order) - you get a €5 promotional credit which I found was applied instantly. My order came to €35.37 including postage (just shy of £30).Linky: amazon.de/b?n…031

They’re also running a promo for a €5 gift code when you create your first wish list and add three or more items to it. This one is sent via email though and may take up to two weeks to come through, and there’s also a €40 minimum spend to use it. Could be handy in future though. You may have to change/keep your language set to German to see this one, the banner came up in the app but the offer page wouldn’t load for me unless I switched the language to German. May not be the case on the website. Linky: amazon.de/b/?…031

Thanks, good to know.
It’s mSata not m.2 2280 , description is wrong
Had a free mSATA slot on my desktop board for years. Might finally get filled if this is where prices are heading. Currently got a mishmash of old HDDs, SSD boot drive and a drive scavenged from my departed Surface Book.
Crap,, I just spent £60 replacing the dead one in my laptop

Unlikely, the review for a 17" Vaio VPC-EJ3D1E/W shows a 2.5" hard drive bay and 2 spaces for RAM, but no mSATA slot.

If you want to upgrade from a hard drive to a SSD you will likely need to buy a 2.5" SATA SSD to outright replace the existing hard drive.

e.g.
PNY CS900 Series 2.5 SATA III 960GB SSD - £74.98 at Amazon

PNY appear to provide a copy of Acronis Trueimage
on their website so that you can clone your existing Windows/applications to the new drive.

The only thing you should need in addition is one of these USB adapter cables for £4.60or a USB enclosure for £6.49 to temporarily connect the new SSD externally during the drive cloning process/keep the old hard drive in for use later.

Great suggestions, but could he not use a 2.5” to M.2/Msata (whichever this drive turns out to be!) adaptor? Seems to be worth it at this price...
Just ordered one ofthese mSATA adapters for £2.31 delivered, so that I can keep using my old 120GB mSATA drive after the replacement on a normal laptop/PC.

The adapter basically changes mSATA connector of the SSD to standard SATA, as used by your average run of the mill laptop and desktop computer.

The one I linked to in the previous post does the same thing. As a bonus it does however give you an enclosure the size of a normal 2.5" hard drive, to make it easier to handle and attach to a computer.

My motherboard only has standard SATA cable slots so with one of these can I use this integral SSD? Cheer
Great price, think my Dell Alienware 15 R3 supports 2 different SSD formats so more research needed before i click buy.

Looks like half-sized m2 SSD slot available in my R3 so looks like this may be compatible.. might be worth a gamble. Can always send back.

I’d personally go for it now as it may be pulled, the price probably isn’t correct. You’ve got a while till dispatch so can always cancel. You’d likely have to pay to return it to Amazon Germany.

Nor did I at first, then I remembered they exist! Probably best to hold off till it arrives though @dwattsy21, as if it turns out to be M.2 rather than MSATA I believe you’ll need a different adaptor depending on the socket. My money’s on it being M.2.

A proper beginner here regarding hard drives.

Can I add this to my desktop Dell PC if it accepts sata?
can I transfer my windows licence from my old hard drive to this drive?

Good advice but the more i check youtube on Alienware 15 R3 SSD upgrades the more I see different configurations, i should just open up mine but will order later, will only cost a few quid to send back if not compatible.

Yes, I would expect that to work fine.

Just remember that until you actually receive the SSD you can't be certain if you will need a mSATA or m.2 SATA adapter.
