I'm not sure I want my computer calculating everything in French, I won't understand what it comes back with

this + X299 board

vs

8700K + z370 board

8700K would be a better buy even at ~£300
Good price but the 8700k has rendered this obsolete.

How is it a good price then?

It's a good price if someone needs a replacement.

It's a bad purchase if you don't have the motherboard already.

If you are uncertain about what this CPU is, this is not the CPU for you. There are many better options (Intel 8xxx or Ryzen).

Overpriced no matter which way it is sliced.

Mostly irrelevant. 8700K doesn't fit Socket 2066.

Nobody would need a replacement, every CPU for this socket would still be in warranty. If you have the board already then sell it imho

Overall I think this is a bad deal whichever way you look at it.

I agree, but some people have strange or unique requirements (I don't know) but my view is: If you know you need this, for whatever reason, then fine. Otherwise, skip it. The fact this is 'hot' is simply because there is not enough knowledge within the community.

Because it’s currently cheaper than anywhere else and is rarely under £300 (i’m pretty sure anyway). It’s still a deal for those who would like this processor.

No but if you are building a new pc then it’s completely relevant. This CPU is only good if you need a x299 mobo for w/e reason or you already have one.

For me a decent deal has to actually be good compared to things that are priced similarly.

For example if an i3 2nd gen laptop is £3000 everywhere apart from one place at £1500, is it a good deal? No!
I'm gonna say hot, for the sole reason that you can get the ASRock X299M currently for less than £100 and it's a decent motherboard at a good price. £350 to get into the X299 platform is not bad at all considering in a few years you'll be finding a lot of the the higher tier CPUs at bargain prices on eBay.

It's certainly niche, but there's a fair few people using older X99 chips to this day from eBay and they still hold up well.

You gonna share where you can get the asrock x299m for less than a ton?

Also the dream of bargain prices on higher tier cpus is just a dream. It never happens as you'd think. Looking at X99, newer better chips are available for less than 2nd hand prices of 5960x, 6900K, 6950x.
