Just bumping this one up

Another fantasic discounted google price on ebuyer

what is a good motherboard for this kit (i'd like 4+ sata2 ports, gigabit nic, pci-e/pci-x/pci and esata and fw800 would be nice too).

also, what ram would this need - would the 50ukp for 2gb pc5300 (ddr2/667) be ok, or do you need the expensive pc8500 (ddr2/1000) as these have 1066 fsb?

what's a good cooler for these, as you've got to overclock them really, it'd be rude not to and the 6320 is 20ukp cheaper and 300mhz slower.

don't forget google discount finishes monday.

The components really depend on whether you want to overclock. No point spending loads on 2Gb RAM if not. Plenty of decent stuff out there for around £50 quid though. Excellent brands are Corsair/Kingston/Crucial for example. You could get this for about 35 delivered: ]http//ww…124

As for cooling go for the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro:

I'm looking at the ]Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 which has lots of good reviews, plus 6xSATA2 and 1x eSATA (or 2x SATA/IDE) out of stock at ebuyer.

I'd prefer cheap RAM and more of it rather than expensive RAM that runs your system 1.5C cooler, or 200MHz faster, as long as it's stable. The ]Corsair XMS2 looks like a good price/performance trade-off, I'm not so fond of Kingston, and OCZ is too expensive. I'd definitely overclock, but only to 2.5GHz or something sensible.

The Artic fan is out of stock, but I'm a big Zalman fan, so I'd probably go for the ]CNPS7500-CU LED, as the 7000B-Cu keeps my Prescott very cool, and they put out much more heat than a Core2Duo, plus if I switch to AM2 or something, I can still use the cooler. I think Scan sell the NorthQ rip-offs for cheaper too :whistling:

I assume PCI-Express x16 is what I need for graphics, so probably just go with a ]XFX GeForce 6200 128MB

Custom PC mag said the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro was the best air cpu air cooler in their labs...its still on their elite list too. Zalman are great but you pay for it...the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 is a bargain at around 15 quid!

By the way, if ebuyer dont have something in stock try Aria who also use google checkout - sometimes their prices are cheaper, sometimes more expensive but worth checking then out!

my zalman 9500-cu is whisper quiet, definately worth the money, although i think i've got an arctic in my media centre which is great too

the arctic does look good, although its aluminium which puts me off, but at half the price of the zalman i can live with it!

aria seems to have everything in stock, system comes to about 350ukp, but i can split that up into batches of 30ukp, although 7ukp shipping per order would negate the tenner discount.

pun, :giggle:

Also consider the Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX. A little smaller than most efficient coolers & still keeps the CPU remarkably cool.

Of course if money is no problem fit a CoolIT freezone, the title says it all
