noob question, I have one of these pc's …noob question, I have one of these pc's (https://www.backmarket.co.uk/second-hand-optiplex-380-pentium-e6300-28-hdd-500-gb-4gb/27051.html), will the motherboards suggested in the description fit in this type of case?

I wouldn't bet on it, a lot of prebuilts from that era were using proprietary motherboards with non-standard mounting and this series of Dell seem to fit that trend, and even if it did technically fit I would almost certainly bet on front panel IO and PSU connectors being incompatible. Also bare in mind that this is an F series processor, and needs an additional graphics card for video output, something the case and its original PSU are almost guaranteed to be unable to accommodate.

If this is the exact model that you own, you're beyond the point of it being a reasonable proposition to update anything beyond the storage, and I'd be more inclined to just use this as a jumping off point for a new build.

See what a bit of renewed competition does for the market. A couple of new AMD SKUs come out, Intel respond and voila!! 99% of new games will happily run on this little CPU, do not even compare it to the old i3. This is a game changer in the world of budget PC's. You can even couple this with the 'dreadful', but cheap RX6500XT and be up and running on a shoe-string. Hopefully the trend will continue downwards. If you want to pair a better GPU, this is all most folks really need, so long as you won't be doing 'real' work on it. Great find at this price!

Can anyone suggest a cheap, compatible motherboard?

Can anyone read the deal description

This is the very definition of a budget king CPU. If you want the best bang for buck this is what you are looking for.

For gaming it out performs the Ryzen 3600 by 5 to 10% for around £90.

Intel really is taking the crown back from AMD.

Let's be honest, this CPU will be more than enough for 90% of people for a good few years. Agree on the comments about 6500XT - surely large audience that don't even need more power than that provides?

This could be the start of my daughters new light gaming pc. Coupled with a cheeky £190/200 1070 from eBay, tempting.

£150 for this and a mobo is great. What would be a suggestion for cheap ram and a basic gpu setting as though this doesn't have onboard graphics?

I was given an ageing i7 3770k and was pondering overclocking it but even if I'm happy with the OC I would need to sort out the cooling, there's only 1 x 4 pin header on the board. I don't game, I just want something to do the basics and a bit of photo editing.

Lets see if we can say that when the new AMD processors on new chipset come out.
