With "Faulty Network Port" and "Wireless: No" you'll need a USB wifi adapter; may be worth a punt with a 12 month warranty.

Can this be sent back if I'm unable to connect to a network using a usb WiFi adapter?

You should easily be able to use a WiFI USB adapter, that shouldn't be affected as it's OS related. I would also suggest if you don't like using WiFi you can get USB to Ethernet adapters. Functionally there shouldn't be a problem.

It was only the Atom processors from this era that are immune to the spectre vulnerability.

Mobile too, so it's slower than a modern desktop celeron like the G3930.

As it was faulty they might well have only had one to start with.
Usually only one as new company. Luck of the draw here .Still issues with mine now in local
shop..

You would be right apart from the fact that the i5 2540m is 20% faster!
I've always bought Intel but anyone even contemplating buying an Intel processor powered anything at the moment must be mad. Even their execs sold all their shares before the security announcement

Your point? There's still enthusiasts running an i7 2700k. Ok maybe not that comparable but still...

Absolutely right, the i5 is likely even faster day to day due to hyperthreading.

Quite the opposite. Having to use hyperthreading to produce similar peak performance means weaker single core performance, which a the limiting factor for a lot of less demanding programs.
