A pathetic 9mb cache and bus speed of only 8 GT/s DMI3 will just bottleneck any half decent rig and 2.8ghz these days, come on!!

Get a 16 core 4.0ghz AMD RYZEN Threadripper 1950X TR4 Processor instead and throw in 2 x Nvidia 1080 with sli and 128gb ram and this would control the universe!!! Ok, bit dearer but pure beast and last at least 2 years. Pro computer builders will rally with me on this one, so voted cold sorry!

The problem is, this is that CPU family that greatly improves on the previous lineup. So people are upgrading.

Everything since 2500k has been small steps, this one is bigger. So don't be shocked if you see sales figures that shows this isn't a 'paper launch' and it is just too many sales.

It's been confirmed numerous times it was a paper launch. How can retailers only get 4 to 10 units.

WELL it must be pop as it's now £194.99 and they throw in a FREE cooler, free del.
I would wait till new year for some proper deals on this, eg £30 a core , the so-called sid james sweet spot.

The only glue I see is dripping from your nostrils.

It's only £170.50 on BT Shop (Pre-order also) so why you would you pay more from ebuyer if you still have to wait, plus this is above the SRP due to severe shortages of supply from Intel.

Sorry OP, but look harder next time- also it's £194.99

Yup. I held off when this was £172 at Ebuyer after release. Price should fall when availability improves.

Nice CPU for that price, it is makes my old Haswell i7 4770 look somewhat dated, but it still rocks with it's 4 cores so i am save for the time being.

But Heat anyway, but it's a intel so it will stay cool.

I had this before I switched to the i7 8700k (bought the 8400 whilst it was on backorder), and I've gotta say, I was super impressed with how it performed compared to my old i5 3570k.

The i5 8400 is definitely the CPU to go for this generation if you're looking for a quality upgrade.

Ryzen 5 1600, includes wraith spire cooler.

Were you trying to sell it on ebay for £250 by any chance?

This price is nothing special they are anywhere from 180-220 depending on the site.

Great processor reviews say it's the best gaming processor in years.

Not sure £189 is a deal though when retail price is £170?

How much would it cost to build this ?

Thanks, you convinced me that sniffing glue is a bad idea.

This is an excellent CPU. The i5 lineup has 6 cores for the first time and it dominates Ryzen 5's in terms of gaming performance.

Or you could just invest in a Pi3

50p more at Scan (£189.49) with a due date of 3rd November, so 27 days ahead of stated eBuyer availability.
scan.co.uk/pro…-cp

Here's me still happy with my i5 2500k, that was certainly a good investment processor wise.

Nah, I returned it to Overclockers for a refund as my whole build was from them

Anyone know the Best priced 1070 and 1070ti at the moment?

Now £195 and only "20 due in 29 to 31 days". Never mind the now cheaper R5 1600, It wouldn't surprise me if by then it's at the price the R7 1700 has fallen to, now. It might be worth it for gamers with high end graphics cards where the CPU is the bottleneck or for people who can get a higher end graphics card at a knockdown price at a later date but, for the rest of us, I'm not sure the majority of us will put up with Intel's constant price bumps, this time around, especially where performance in productivity apps is at least as important to us as in games using high end graphics cards where the CPU is the bottleneck.

Not yet it doesn't. Because it's a paper launch purely to stifle sales of Ryzen. It's merely a promise of something better to come, and even when it does come, it's only noticeably better when gaming at 720P. Ryzen smashes it for productivity.
Plus there is a good chance that games going forward will harness more cores and threads meaning Ryzen will improve.

Yeah a good chance in 5-10 years. Games have only recently been optimised to efficiently make use of 4 cores. 6 seems like the logical next step. In terms productivity however, Ryzen does hold it's own but not by a large margin.

Also - if you look at how the Intel CPU fairs against its Ryzen counterpart in terms of benchmarks, you will see that is surpasses it when gaming all the way from 1080p to 4k. Sorry but one can't help but think you have invested in a Ryzen chip as of late?

That's Ivy Bridge, actually.

4770........not 3770......silly me. lol

I5 8400 is competing with the Ryzen 5 1600/x, and to be fair, your mid or even upper-mid range gamer wouldn't notice the difference.

What swung it for me towards intel was the better compatibility with RAM, too many examples of Ryzen being very sensitive and due to the infinity fabric architecture being disproportionately affected by running lower speed RAM.

I got one of these 2 weeks back via a local retailer, coupled with a cheap Z370 board (<£110), GTX1060 and 16GB ram, it performs incredibly well for a budget build.

I had a desktop PC until I read this thread.
I had no idea, until just now, that I actually had a rig.

It's a Thinkpad T400. Can I meet any rig-buddies here?

Nope. Not yet I haven't. I'm still undecided believe it or not. I just don't like the way Intel conduct themselves. People are now holding off buying Ryzen because Intel have developed CPUs that are better for gaming. Trouble is, it seems Intel haven't actually made any yet.

Now £185.99
