Cracking price for this I think at just £299.99 delivered.

Yes yes it has Windows 8.. deal with it. :-D

For £299 you get a 3.3Ghz Ivy Bridge Intel i3 CPU, NVIDIA GT 620 Graphics, 6GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, USB 3.0, a card reader (if anyone uses these days?), plus keyboard and mouse, and of course Windows 8 64bit installed

Thats a lot of bang for your buck even if you don't like Windows 8.

Plus free laser mono printer with it if you click the bundle deal button thing below the picture.

Windows 8 - what's not to like?

Just install Classic Shell free of charge if you want it to look like Windows 7.

Windows 8 is alot quicker booting etc than windows 7 and the metro interface is fine if you are just browsing and checking your mail. Then just flip to classic shell desktop when you want to do other more in depth tasks.

Nonsense - the kind of uninformed post made by somebody who doesn't use Windows 8 but just reads negative comments from hopeless saps who order a Windows 8 computer and can't find the start menu.

Windows 8 is much faster and safer/better security than any previous Windows OS.

It takes a bit of getting used to but if you don't like the interface you can install Classic Shell in 5 mins and get back the Windows 7 look (or earlier OS looks if you like).

Windows 8 has been very good to me! Thanks to said hopeless saps who sent back brand new computers, we have picked up 2 Windows 8 refurbs (which were actually brand new!!!) for a song. One of which Core i5 monster for about £250.

Plus we acquired 2 x Windows 8 upgrades for a grand total of £14.99 - and I think you'll agree £7.50 for a state of the art Windows operating system is quite a bargain ;-)

lol at the hopeless saps is all I can chortle ;-)

Could say the same about your comment

Would it be worth buying this then putting a better graphics card and psu inside. Then would it be a good gaming machine? Or would it be less to buy one with a higher spec. I want to display all games 1080p and they all run on medium to high graphics detail

It's only free delivery if you don't include the printer.

- Windows 8 doesn't boot faster than Windows 7. They just renamed hibernate to "shutdown" and people eat that right up. Frankly if you aren't using hibernate already on Windows 7 then more fool you. If you turn off "Fast Startup" (aka hibernate) the difference between 7 and 8 is inconsequential.
- Windows 8 isn't substantially faster or more secure than Windows 7. It is however better optimised to low end hardware than either Vista or 7 are.

Actual benefits of Windows 8:

- Pin and picture passwords.
- Slightly better multi-monitor support options (e.g. per monitor taskbar, et al).
- File Explorer ("explorer") now has a ribbon bar, an up button, and a few other almost universally positive UI changes.
- Copy/Move file operations are now pausable, you can set a priority, you can see a graph, and in general it is a massive improvement in every regard.
- Task Manager has been improved. Graphs. Summaries. The whole works. It is a complete overhaul and a massive improvement. There is also an "idiots mode" for normal users.
- Better parental controls.
- Free anti-virus out of the box (Windows Security Essentials installed, now called Windows Defender, does anti-virus and anti-malware).
- Hyper-V client and server support (in Pro and Enterprise).

Yes, the Home Screen is unpopular, but if you ignore the Home Screen the stuff done to the desktop is pretty good.

7.50 for an upgrade more like a downgrade, all the people i know that have windows 8 hate it and I have tried it in the shops and it stinks.

Having to installing Classic Shell just proves me RIGHT

Need a desktop for my lads college, so this looks perfect. Thanks OP

It is becoming boring - ALL posts on HUKD that mention Windows 7 or 8 since about a year ago, regardless the actual product is a laptop, a desktop, or the OS itself, would turn into a debate between Windows 7 and 8.

I am sure everyone has made their points clear and some people will just like it or hate it and you can never convince them. Can we talk more about the product itself again?

I didn't pay to upgrade from Windows 7, that really would be a bit pointless.

But XP is now old and slow and unsupported so it paid to give 2 old machines a new lease of life.

Both running perfectly though I did do clean install instead of trying to save old stuff.

*****

So I was right - you have no personal experience of Windows 8 except having a click on a display machine at PCWorld.

loflmao

Any codes for free delivery? Coming up as 7.50 delivery with printer added. Anyone know if this would be Ok for light photoshop work and casual gaming?

The graphics card is not very good for games unless your running a very low res or playing older games.

Is GT 620 Graphics good for HTPC use? For example: 1080, 3d movies etc
Thanks

Windows XP is still currently supported by Microsoft, however this will end on 8th April 2014.

Would rather they didn't include the utterly pointless nvidia 620 and knock £20 off the price

cracking good deal

My mother needs a new PC, but going from a Compaq to a PC like this, is it going to be a lot bigger?

Cold. It's Aria, it not Windows 7, no Aero UI and oh..................................................... its not Mac OS X.

Need a new PC, is this good enough for some good old Team Fortress 2 gameplay? oh, can I also upgrade the Graphics Card if I need to?

I always say that a custom build can save you a lot of money compared to a ready built pc.
This PC is a really great deal though, Saves some money. The only thing you would need to upgrade in the future to not keep it outdated is the GPU, as long as the i3 won't bottleneck the GPU you would buy.
Do not expect to play modern games with this current build, It will probably play Far Cry 3 on the lowest possible settings on a low Res.

But for this price, it's pretty good, decent value!

More, faster RAM; double HD space (and able to utilise the SATA3 (not that thats really worth much)); better chipset; 500W PSU. But w/o the peripherals; no graphics card; no OS.

It pretty level. If you have peripherals and an OS ready to go I'd choose the one in your link - add a decent GPU and you are somewhere OK. Summary: it depends. Your link is a good option though.

Thanks for your reply, very informative. I have peripherals and an OS, primarily I'm looking to use it for Photoshop/Illustrator and a bit of video editing, very unlikely to be playing many, if any, games on it. The added RAM and HDD space tends to make me lean more towards the latter of the two. Any other input?

Thanks again!

3220 delivered 95 + 6GB delivered 55 is a 150 value. Remaining definitely retail for 150 but 300 is a lot of money for a very mediocre/limited gaming system. You'll have 20 for your troubles after selling the gfx on the bay and will need to get a proper card for starters.
