Isnt the i7 7740x posted on here the other day for £199 better ?, I seriously dont know but judging by the number increment and the price difference between the two's rrps it should be.

That's low end of x series plus more cost for x299 motherboards this is main consumer related as most won't need to change their motherboard
8600k benchmarks better and is 240ish

I would stay away from 7700k, had one before and my CPU temps were shooting north of 90C on custom watercooling. I would get coffee lake i5 instead.

Sounded like a problem with your loop. The 7700k is a highly regarded CPU. My temps never get near to 90C

nope, had my i5 before and never got past 50.

7700k is highly regarded as a CPU with poor IHS paste application
£277....... 4 cores....... 2018....... Having a giraffe!

8 threads I know AMD put a spanner in the works in the consumer market.

Ditto. Mine tops out at just under 60C, stress testing with Prime95 @ 20C ambient temp, with air cooling via a Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU Air Cooler, and MX-2 paste. No Ocing.

So two possible options. Either a problem with your loop or you had a faulty piece of silicon. Unless you’re running at an absurd overclock you shouldn’t be getting the thing anywhere near 90C

The loop was fine, as I said before, i ran my i5 6500 at 4.6Ghz at 1.38v and was hoovering around 50C, 7700k was over 90C at 1.38v and 4.9Ghz. The issue is poor thermal compound between the core die and IHS, with majority of CPUs affected, some might get decent i7, some might not; still something to be aware of.

It's a well known issue, c'mon man...

So it's a "well known issue" that the "majority of CPUs" run at similar temps to yours? Nonsense, 90C is dangerously high temps for a CPU. I know six people with a 7700K, including myself. None of us have temp issues. I run a 1080 SLI setup in a case that doesn't have the best airflow and idle temps are 25C and top out around 60C.

Man, you need to get back to school and learn how to read again. I said, and I quote: ".The issue is poor thermal compound between the core die and IHS, with majority of CPUs aaffected". In other words, thermal paste intel use is sh*te, and half the time they don't even apply it properly. At stock you might be getting 60c and under, but if you want a decent overclock, it will get hot.

And the YouTube videos I posted are irrelevant now? In all of them people were getting well over 90c. when lots of YouTube channels are making videos about delidding a CPU, you know there's a problem.

Why is everyone so defensive all the time? I'm just sharing my experiences, not attacking other people's personal life.

I've dropped my overclock as I'm GPU bound at 4K and don't see any further gains. Currently running 4.7Ghz at 1.225V with a 58-60C load. At 4.9Ghz running at 1.31V it was running a little hotter and at 5Ghz at 1.38V it was maxing out at 77C. I dunno maybe you got unlucky but everyone I know is running a minimum 4.6Ghz clock and don't have any temp issues.
