I believe this is the only Intel Core i7 Quad Core powered laptop with a 17" screen available for less than not just £800 but £700! Add in the fact that it comes with Windows 7 Professional (not Home Premium), an ATI 5650 graphics adapter, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive with additional space in the chassis for a second drive (maybe an SSD) to be added and I think it makes for very good value.

Play is currently selling this machine for about £200 less than its competitors. For some reason it does not mention the model of the machine in the description. However, I decided to take the plunge anyway - ordered mine on Wednesday and received it this morning. As I hoped, it was a DV7-4050ea model - see pic in the comments section below.

The next best prices for this machine at well known retailer/etailers are:

Dixons: £899.99
Saverstore: £916
Dabs: £932
Currys/PC World: £949

I got £4.24 cash back from TopCashBack - slightly less was available from Quidco.

Good find. Way cheaper than the cheapest Dell XPS 17 (£849 min). Still hanging on until next year for something better but hot from me.

hot specs!

arghhh i am tempted. hot

No Blu Ray = Dealbreaker.

Smoking hot. Firstly reasonably priced laptop that I've seen that could play current games to a decent standard. And it being HP is a bonus.

If it arrives faulty, good luck in getting a return for it. Play.com are awful.

No.
Packard Bell is owned by Acer now.

HP are pretty good, although it is all down to personal preference.

Looks like they've sold out... or realised their mistake.

either way i sent them a webnote, see what if any response i get.

I want something for gaming but decided to wait till nearer christmas and i am still trying to decide if the i7 is really worth the extra over an i5.

Yeah, they're awaiting for stock

If you really want to order it in the hopes that they will have it back on stock just go to:

I ordered mine on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday. However, I couldn't post this deal until I had received the machine and could verify which model it was, as there is at least one older model that had an i7 but non-DX11 nVidia graphics.

Adding it now comes to £899 so it was probably an error, well done to the lucky few

If you want to add a second drive you'll need a caddy and cable such as this: newmodeus.com/sho…345
