is good for some countries but not good to call european mobiles....vodafone is better for that
I agree with Koli as for US/Canada it is 4 times the going rate of my current provider Lycatel (.5p for both countries regardless whether mob or LL). Have some heat though.
what about connection charge?

There are no connection charges !!

I want the option to allow me a month of international usage whilst I am in the USA later this year. Ideally I would like to use my data and minutes etc for a nominal charge so that my iphone isn't just an ipod touch and stuck on wifi only whilst I am out there. Anyone got any ideas how to do that on o2?

That would be extremely expensive from how I understand the o2 tariff. I'd get the phone unlocked and by a local sim (where you go to).
Hot - thanks ordered a free sim

The phone is unlocked and you can't get a local SIM for the iphone in America just for a month.
The USA is a real rip off when it comes to their mobile tarifs, we really should count ourselves lucky for what we do have on offer.
Do you need to top up every month to get the cheap international calls?
thank you, good find for me, hot hot

Try this for USA

it is cheaper to call half way around the world than in our own country. god knows what else we have to see.......
The rates to Jamaica are not very competitive.
i use lyca mobile for calling pakistan.

their offer for 1p per min seems to be never ending and you get a bonus £1 (100minutes) with each top up (well for £5 anyway). no other fees and reliable.

i remember when o2 ran the international calling trial - £5 a month for unlimited international calling - now that was superb with great quality.

no. you only need to top up once and you can make calls whenever you want.

its not like the old Your Country SIM where you had to top up every month or else!
remember that price isn't everything!

a clear line and good quality is also important. I never have problems calling mexico.

No you dont have to.....

and what about just paying for the cost of the call if you don't top up the minimum of £10? They should have a clear price displayed there...
HOT HOT HOT! Thank you!
T-Mobile and another company are good but still expensive while on holiday in the USA. Best to get a cheap phone from Walmart for calls and use wifi at a coffee shop.
Good find ... heat added..
it's been in market ages... i have been using this for past one year

another good option for people who talk more to specified number O2 International Favrt!!!
Poor rates to Pakistan, should be 1p per minute to there as well.
Any such facilities for contract customers?

1st thing to remember is that you don't get free incoming calls like UK/EU.

T-mobile US offers a PAYG sim for $2/day (~£1.26) for unlimited calls, texts, and 2G data, or $3/day for unlimited calls, texts, and 3G data - note, however, that your phone will have to support 1700/2100AWS for T-Mobile US 3G data (basically, only US t-mobile phones or the galaxy nexus). They also offer a $30/mo prepaid plan that is unlimited 3G (5gb fair use), unlimited texts and 100minutes.
prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/pay…ans

Alternatively, if you really want 3G data and you don't have/want to get a 1700/2100 t-mobile US 3G capable phone, you can go with AT&T pre paid for the following plans (they use similar 3G bands as the rest of the world):
* $50/mo for unlimited everything (though, not sure what their fair use cap is for data...)

or various other pre pay plans below where you can add data bundles at $5 for 10MB, $15 for 100MB, or $25 for 500MB
*$25/mo for 250minutes, unlimited texts
*$2/day unlimited minutes, unlimited texts
*$0.10/min, $0.20 text

Ayyo papaa! I would try GT mobile for apnay calls.
heat added really good one

Sorry this is a watered down version of your country sim for countries that are still ridiculously expensive. The old your country included 100 free minutes to almost any country in the world (they have a few exclusions like satellite phones) with every 15 pound topup to any landline or MOBILE and you still get your 15 pounds. Admittedly rates are higher on the old plan once you run out of your free minutes, just depends how much you use and which country you call.
Thank you.

Its mentioned.......if you dont top up you dont get the extras like free uk calls and texts......rates will be same for international calls.

I think you can sort out something suitable with Tmobile US.
For certain you can use the 2$ a day Tmobile US prepaid but you will be stuck on edge.
(3G / 4G are currently no use to any iphones.)
CDMA (Not sure if the iphones really are world phones (I.e the CDMA stuff is physically in there you might be able to set it onto boost or cricket wireless by messing around with QPST it will definitely need a jailbreak though).
AT&T you need to hack the APN's for the prepaid plan so you need to jailbreak.
For contract customers I use the o2 calling card although you have to dial the access number.

But I link the pin (***)and save the access number with my international contact as a second number with three pauses eg 020 35055555,,,009122*******0# so calls India 1p and USA 2p per minute
This i rubbish offer...you have to commit to top up 15 pounds every month. you get lot of virtual network like Lyca, Vectone...for 1 p for many countries....Cold from me
