does pcworld match there own internet prices??

I was wondering if the 1TB drive is 2 500gb drives in one caddy. Anyone know?

Original Poster

i don't know much about harddrives but i know a few people who have em and my friend has a 1tb and it's 2*500gig and he got his 2weeks ago

not sure if this help ya

Hi guys let me put you in the know!

This mybook drive is very small so it looks as though it is only one drive of 1tb, ther has has been huge demand for this so not many stores have any left. There is never a problem matching our own website prices or even places like amazon, misco, dabs, evesham (find it cheaper on any of these websites and they will have to give you the difference plus 10% of the difference) unfortunately they are probably the only websites they will match so no ebuyer or scan.

Western digital are a good reliable brand!

Another cool little hint for all you students out there if you have a student card if you reserve and collect at that price you can get an extra 10% off = £121.5 thats prety hard to beat for a branded 1TB drive!

Yes, but not with the 10% difference. eg, in-store price = £100 & online price = £80. In store if you mention it, you'll get the item for the £80 price match (not £78 as it would have been had the price match been on, say, play.com)

Stay away from the Maxtor drives... Personally I have a 60GB 2.5" external and it's never faulted me once *touch wood*, but according to the TechGuys at my local PCW the Maxtor externals get returned as faulty all the time. Maxtor may be cheap, but ask yourself why.

The 1TB deal is a great price actually... Cheaper than Amazon, so it would seem that you can actually get some decent prices at PCW :-D

Someone on Amzon says the 1tb drive comes ready formatted to FAT32. I'd have thought it'd be NTFS formatted, very odd.

Could you explain what the difference is?

LOL! You sound like you work for PC World -oh wait YOU DO! Let ME put YOU in the know ... since most the PC World staff are incompetent, sorry if your not but I MUST have a dig at the fact most PC World employees are inept.

PC World will match any UK based company even if their HQ is in another country, they must have a UK registered office though. Ebuyer, one of your examples, they will match.

pcworld.co.uk/mar…tch

According to their own rules, which aren't fully listed here because they appear to have hidden them, at least from me, they will even price match shopto.net.

Please ask for more training.

NTFS is faster, more secure and easily allows for files larger than 4gb, however FAT32 is more compatible with older operating systems such as Windows ME, 98 and earlier.

If you look carefuly you will notice that the link is only a price match on printers, unfortunately nothing else. They will price match any store that is within 10miles of a Pc World store as long as it is in stock and freely and publicly available. Websites price matching in store is only limited to verry few selected websites listed in store, also internet price match instore now no longer counts on TVs.

Yes I do work in Pc World, been ther for many years(but learnt my trade myself before joining) and yes unfortunately there are a lot of staff who you could say are not the most technically savy ;-), I do like to feel I'm doing my bit to slowly change that perception. it is however a little bit of the luck of the draw as to who you get at the moment.

6 of those years, but like I said, they have 'hidden' the exact places you can price match to. At Christmas time they were 'all revealing' for the competition. According to the 'other' webpage they have it's 30 miles and not 10 pcworld.co.uk/mar…ise took me a bit to get that, Google hates meh

So PC World can price match, but how they feel apperently according to their rules ATM ... move the goal posts as you like. Eons ago I worked for Electronics Boutique, cough-cough-ahem-cough. Most of the people there were complete numpties ... like selling PCI cards for DVD encoding/decoding and telling people their CD drives would all of a sudden be able to read DVD's ... Which is why I said 'sorry if ... blah ...' Something to do with a brush and tar.

I really do wish I had bookmarked that page from pre-Christmas, it had all the rules. Guess PCW got nailed or found it too expensive.

Notice they pricematch with their "competitors"?... B&Q, Halfords etc! :whistling:

Last time looked PCW didn't sell kitchens or carparts?, they don't price match their actual competition eg Ebuyer, Scan..
