Portable dehumidifier on lightning deal. Looks excellent. Good reviews. 4.8 stars out of 367 reviews. We have been looking for one for a while to help with our daughters health. This seems ideal

This is compressor Dehumidifier. Dessicant dehumidifiers are much more effective. These stop working in winter when you need them most.
I've got this & it's great! We have one upstairs & one downstairs to help with drying washing in winter... definitely worth the money!

Bit of a sweeping statement there.
I got one last time it was on offer, it's well worth the money. I can't believe how much water it collects and how much warmer it feels.

Desiccant dehumidifiers work better at lower temperatures, ie. below 15 degrees, and are quieter. So really depends what you want it for. We used one to keep an unused colder part of the house free from dampness.
I have the differently branded screwfix one, that I think is the same one. Only difference if the controls on mine are analogue. Was on offer about a month ago at screwfix for £79.99, if I remember rightly.
It has been brilliant, far better that the ebac it replaces.

To be fair, i think i get what he means. It's true the compressor dehumidifiers are less effective in cold weather, rather than stop working at all. I have had a compressor, and a dessicant, and the dessicant is far more consistent across a range of temperatures than the compressor one i had.
I would only go for a dessicant dehumidifier if purchasing again.

Yes I also agree that they work less effectively at colder temperatures but for people on a lower budget a compressor dehumidifier like this will work just fine and to say it will 'stop working in Winter' is simply not true.

I think if it ever got as cold as 15 degrees indoors, there would be enough complaining that the damp would be the least of my worries...

I guess I'm unable to comprehend having enough house that some of it could be left unused.

Yeah, on a budget. From the comments I think I've got a bargain. Hope this helps others like me, who are looking right now
I wish Dessicant ones were this price, this wouldn't work in the large storage room I need one for because of the temperature
drats, missed the lightning deal. Was after one like this!

Last time I looked at these, I decided on Meaco DD8L, however they were pricey (about £180 at the time).
However if you look on eBay there are refurbished units for £120, but even better there are Supra 8L models at £80 with 12 month warranty. When I bought one, the invoice was actually from Meaco, but all the branding was removed from the product.

Now it is off season for dehumidifiers as they are mainly used in winter . I bought my ecoair dessicant from Amazon as well for similar price. When I see it reduced again, I will post here. I have had very bad experiences with compressor Dehumidifier in past due to the time they spend freezing and defreezing in winter and efficiency drops to 5 - 10 % as temperature drops making them useless unless you maintain high temperature for them and keep house heating on 24/7.
