Serious question: I am puzzled why many (including me!) would want such a device, as Landline calls cost so much more than Mobile calls now, except for those with expensive "all inclusive" landline tariffs who need to be making an enormous number of calls to break even!

Agreed, why would you not just use VOIP or WiFi calling if near a land-line? No equipment required at all.

Only thing I can suggest is it allows you to use your mobile AS your house phone instead of cordless phones? Then I can see the usage as I could get rid of my cordless phones..

Can it be used with VOIP?

You can do VOIP on your mobile without any equipment
I figure the best advantage is receiving your landline calls without call forwarding on your landline.

Only three reviews all mention faults..... Cold I'm afraid.
Had one for a few years. They are hit and miss when it comes to receiving calls. Sometimes the app works other times nothing.

I find it useful if I am abroad and need to contact my bank etc or call someone who does not have whatsapp etc. . Use the app to dial the number using your UK landline.

Not worth £54 considering all the bugs.

These are amazing devices.

Please don't take 3 reviews as gospel.

These aren't really for making landline calls alone. They are amazing for answering them though. You can answer a call on your mobile device from within or outside your home.

Most of us have a mobile within hands reach all the time so you'd handset it always nearby. Not always the case with a handheld phone.

This is cheaper than a couple of extra handsets and works far better with your own android and iOS phones/tablets.

Works with VoIP too apparently.

We've had ours for 4 years now and wouldn't be with anything else

It could be dependant on a strong Wi-Fi signal at home but I've never missed a call with ours.

It's definitely one of those things you won't know how you did without it. Same can be said for so many devices nowadays

We now only have a corded phone (for emergency calls using a power cut and this devices which works via our mobiles.

Even better we can see who is calling with ease and even block callers completely using our mobiles.

And that's relevant to this how?
I see what you mean, but I was making a point that you can make free voice calls using a smartphone without the need of buying the above device, saving yourself alot of money, cost of call is free and line quality is very good.
I bought one of these as I have wanted to ditch the home phone for ages however as I have to pay for the line rental and have a landline I still want it. After all the reviews and comments I was sceptical about it but thought I would give it a go and if I have any issues I would.just take it back. Anyway came home plugged it in and within 10 minutes was working like a dream. My wife and I both have the app (android and apple) no issues with the app and calls in ring both phones. Also made a call using the landline while out and about tonight and was just like a normal call with no distortion. So all in all I am very happy. Phones have been ditched at home and all we need to have now are our mobiles.

Sounds good! I've been wanting to setup my landline like this for some while, but the Andrtoid app reviews are rather off-putting, hope you don't mind me asking you a couple of questions:

What version of android is your mobile phone running - one of the app reviews claims it doesn't work on 10, does it wake up an android phone when the landline rings and how many rings does the landline make before the call can be answered on your android mobile?

Cheers

I have an android phone and an iPhone attached to the device and the android phone rang 1 ring prior to the iPhone. It took 1 or 2 rings before it kicked in when calling the number. The android app is in Beta so I am sure I will hit some issues but so far so good. The iPhone version of the app does look way better.

I am running a Galaxy s9 plus on Android version 9. The iPhone is an 11 pro on the latest iOS..
