that looks pretty awesome...
do you know if the firmware is updateable?
does it suppork mkv?
how do you operate it, does it come with a remote?
lastly, what's the menu like. I bought a similar player once and it looked hideous.

holy smoke, what a bit of kit. Need to ask the missus to get me one for Xmas plays virtually anything although one remark spoke of struggling to play AVI files, hmm.

Firmware - don't know
mkv - yes
remote - yes
menu - pretty basic......but hey.....does what it says on the tin

Looks like a rebranded Sumvision Micro 2, which means it comes with an extremely crappy remote.
Other than that, it's a good little unit.

I think you can use certain all-in-one remotes with it.

duh - just saw it says MKV on the blurb.
also. most of my questions have answers there.. just got excited.. heh heh.

still be nice to know about the presentation though

According to some reviews on another site it does play MKV Review number 32.

But apparently the menu is great. But it does sound like a sweet bit of kit.

I have not had a problem with avi files

I think the comment he read was by someone creating their own AVI files in Movie Maker.
Probably down to the guy using an unsupported resolution/bitrate/etc.

nice

ah - and just saw your reply. Cheers.
Also noticed there's a PDF manual you can view which shows the menu screens.

Ordered one. Thanks for the tip.

this is a really nice bit of kit....they also have this plus sandisk 8gb sdhc class 4 card bundle with code "codebun35" and it will come out £24.99 for the two...

Looks exactly the same as the Sumvisiosn Cyclone Micro 2, so may be the same hardware just with a new paint job?

Hi Guys,

Silly question to ask; but...

I have a Blu Ray home cinema with a USB port but it sometime stutters with some AVI files. The last film I played was a 480p blu ray rip, would this handle the playback better? The film played better on the PC and perfectly on XBMC on the PC???

+ do you know if this will play films from an external 2.5" HDD without needing to use an external power supply, rather than lugging a 3.5" external HDD around!!!
Edited by: "princesspeanut" 27th Sep 2011

Yup.....just plug-in your hard drive and it will play also the MKV files....the difference between the sumvision and I-on vortex is the latter has no optical out and the remote is different.... I've got both and got this i-on vortex for £15.99

Yes, that looks like an even better deal to me, just £4 extra for a decent branded 8GB sd card - silly not to, really.

I've struggled with avis on this unit but I haven't read the manual. The remote is functional and the interface is excellent. I would recommend buying it. I bought it a couple of weeks back when it was 15.99 posted on hukd. I think its great and haven't stopped using it since it came thru the letterbox.

i have the sumvision cyclone 2+ and they are worth the money and the remote imo is not as bad as people make it out to be and plus it is very portable:p

is this a clone like the turnmeon2 player that seemed to be a copy of the sumvision cyclone micro 2 ?

this one looks like a clone of the sumvision cyclone micro 2 + !

their either clones or rebadged units

after i bought the turnmeon2 player a couple of months later you couldn't buy them anywhere they just disappeared out of existence

If you click on the PDF on the product page it shows a sumvision cyclone micro 2!!!

just ordered 2! i got the sumvision for my dad which works so well! i just hope they play as good as the sumvision ones

Hot for been the cheapest of it's kind but i also recommend the Designer Habitat hdmi media player from amazon which plays everything the cyclone micro 2+ is able to play plus i noticed it's far better than cyclone 2+ when it comes to fast forward & rewind functions.

similar price to an xbmc xbox.. which is better depends what you want to play. for local content/HD content, this. for streaming services like iPlayer etc, or networked SD content, obviously it's the xbox1.
almost tempted to get one, but the hassle of copying things on SD cards probably means i wouldn't use it.. not sure. could be ideal in a holiday situation, small, take a bunch of movies on SD cards etc.. at home i'll stick with XBMC though.

Ideal for travelling will work on any TV anywhere excellent quote but totally untrue because the only output is HDMI and very rarely have i been on holiday to find a HD ready LCD/Plasma to use so it really wont travel very well at all its to much trouble with copying over content to a SD or ExHDD i will stick with my media streamers.

The PDF manual on the Zoombits page is for the Sumvision (available on Amazon for £19.60). However the Sumvision has both composite and HDMI outputs.

I would say it's worth a punt as I recently bought a sumvision 2 and was quite disappointed with how crappy the remote was even though people state it has been improved oO also it did not play a xvid correctly with it restarting automatically and more recently I noticed it has sync issues on a standard mkv. I know none of these media players will be as good as running files off a laptop but merely noting my gripes which I believe all of these 'cheap' media players suffer regardless if it's sumvision branded or not.

SD only works in FAT so only up to 4GB HD Files, Says only 720 resolution?
Doesn't say MKV?

not the same player as this one - thats the standard def one which 'upscales' to 1080p
this one supposed to be HD native.
rather have sumvision though tbh

Wish they had it at this price a few days earlier. Just ordered a generic mkv player from dealextreme for a bit more than this.

I think all cheap generic hd players are similar .. works with most things. If you are concerned about upgradebility, then invest in a WDTV or Popcorn Hour.

To anyone here who owns one of these, can they confirm if AVCHD works on these.?
Could it play back movies straight from an SD card from a HD Cam?

Thanks

i have one of the sumvision and iirc it can play the vobs within the iso (you can explore it) but wont play directly from the iso 'file'.
not sure if it autoplays the vobs in series or if goes back to menu.
...or if this player is the same.

Just so you all know this is a copy of the Sumvision not a re branding.

Thanks...ordered:)

Damn this website...just bought one with the 8GB SD card! No longer will I have to hook up my laptop to my TV.

Can this only be used with HDMI? As looking to buy it for my brother who doesn't have a HDTV...?
