Currys have got plenty of ipad2s in stock, free delivery and 5% discount code which is posted elsewhere on HUK and works fine - I'm typing this on one now!

Having read a warning, I'm put off buying an ipad. It seems there is a part of the software that tracks and logs your every location when online.
Quote: The security of Apple's iPhones and iPads is being called into question after it emerged the devices contain a hidden file that tracks the owner's locations. The finding was reported by two British computer programmers at a technology conference in San Francisco.

The pair found Apple has been logging the whereabouts of 3G phone and iPad users since it updated its mobile operating system a year ago.

The location data is taken from mobile phone masts and Wi-Fi networks and recorded on the device along with the time and date.

However, one of the concerns is that when a person syncs their phone or iPad with a computer the information is transferred to the hard drive permanently.

Anyone with access to this computer, including a hacker, could then trace the user's movements.

And if the phone or iPad was lost or stolen a stranger would also be able to view the data with the right software.

Although other mobile phone companies collect information in similar ways, it is usually kept behind a firewall.

It then normally requires a court order to gain access to it - but this is not the case with this data.
Unquote.

There is even free software available to view the data. It also seems this cannot be disabled either. When Sky news contacted Apple they refused to comment.

Where did you see currys having Ipad2 in stock.. There site says all models oos...

Google's Android devices have been found out to do the same but they get let off with it on here.

You can't speak bad about Android or you'll be shouted at.

Androids is optional. It only stores the data if you allow it and you can stop it/erase all the data at any time.

The Wifi version doesn't track as it can't contact phone towers. I think this issue is perhaps overblown, and I'm fairly privacy minded. My sat nav would tell anybody who broke into my car where I had been.

Sorry, but is this a "deal" just because it's in stock? Or because it's cheaper than elsewhere?

Android does it, yes, but it tells you it does it, and you can turn it off.

Big difference there.

So shout down all you like.

Apple, although it does hint at it in the t+c's, never actually told anyone it did it, and even then, never told you the degree it did it, and never told you how long it kept it, where and how it kept it, and who it sent it too.

Again, big difference.

And this 'deal' is just 'the price'.... ??? Madness...

I used ipad-stock.co.uk to get real time stock alerts for uk retailers. I ordered one from Currys when I got the first alert at the full RRP. Then I saw the 5% discount code on here and ordered another one using that code. I'm using the second one now, and have 21 days to take the first one back to a Currys store UNOPENED for a full refund.

Many thanks... I already have one from currys but want another for the parents.. Will use the link you posted..

I dont understand the issue with the tracking thing on the iPad...if MI5 want to find me i'm at home, work or the local, they wouldnt need to track my iPad
