*** 28/10 update: 16GB and 32GB BACK IN STOCK ***

The iPad 4 may be coming out, but the 3 is still a fantastic tablet with the ultra high resolution Retina display and one which will be supported for a long time yet.
Now reduced by £84 (~ 20%) at the Apple Refurbished store. It's worth noting these units are indistinguishable from new and include the full warranty. Actually, as previously, they're probably just unsold new units due to the new model and not even refurbished at all.
This makes it cheaper than the non-Retina iPad2! It's also the lowest price this has ever been.
Full range available including the 32GB and 64GB, plus 3G options. For example the fully specced 64GB is now £439.00 (£120 off) and the top of the range 64GB+3G is £539.

yeah right, these will be unsold/cancelled order new ones
get these now because as of tomorrow the next batch will be used returns
They dont sell them as new anymore. The only thing they could be used for is to replace damaged ones under Applecare. It is unclear whether Apple will replace anything taken in now with this iPad or the new one. My guess is like for like
It's usual for Apple to just move existing stock of products they change into the "refurbished" category. They don't sell replaced product ranges as new, even if the devices were never used.
New or not, these "refurbs" will usually come in a different, plain, box like this:
Any good with a soldering iron?
You can keep most stuff in the "cloud" these days, music, books, apps and only use space as needed..
That said I went 64Gb for £439
Totally agree.
Indeed but not everybody wants to use cloud. I bought into Apple initially but now I am fed up with Apple's whole business plan. They make great products but seriously how useful is a 16GB tablet. With the price of SSD falling so quickly, where's the 128GB tablet?
Only tablet I would buy now is one with a card slot or USB.
As a (previous) 16GB iPad owner I get your point, however recently the cloud made it much more useful, I've moved all my music there and barely use 1GB for it now. All my videos are on a cheap NAS too. So plenty of space left and a very useful tablet.
Now with 64GB I don't know how I'll fill it all!
The problem with SD and USB slots on tablets is they're always limited. Other platforms like Android don't let you move apps to to SD cards for example, and having USB sticks sticking into tablets all the time misses the point entirely.
I have a 32GB iPhone 5, and will shortly be getting a new iPad 16gb to replace my current 16gb iPad 2.
All my music goes on the iPhone - so the only space I really use on my iPad is for apps/pictures/videos (and if I watch a film on there I always delete it afterwards) so I never come close to filling it! All depends on your preferences!
If this were my sole device, I'd be going for at least a 32gb or 64gb.
Quick comment: Many Android devices allow apps to be installed on the SD card.
Am not an Apple fan, due to the restrictive model. But am aware of battery powered wifi hard drives (such as airstash), so you can carry extra space with you. Not ideal (hence I went for an Asus Transformer) but may help people stuck with full 16gb ipads. see here: businessinsider.com/bes…p=1
Not voted hot or cold.
Never buy a 2 bedroom house because if you have 2 kids its full and you're stuffed!!!
There's not that much difference between the 3 and 4, so these are a healthy reduction for what will almost certainly be brand new and unused.
This is a very biased view, you are trying to suggest it's limited to have an SD and USB slot. Not needing a constant net connection to access data makes these features very useful (which are optional, Apple doesn't offer the choice). I could have a portable 1tb hard disk and access the data at any time, I could have 10 64gb SD cards if I wanted to create/record media, or just watch 1080p movies. All this without a net connection. Of course if I don't want to do this, Android also offer cloud services.
Additionally most apps do install to SD these days and if not you can force the majority to SD by rooting (minus widgets and config files as these need to be on internal memory).
So please don't suggest additional functionality is limited, when you have no choice if you pick Apple...
On another note, may get this for my mum. iPad is definitely better/easier for the non-technical.
You username is delusion and you call me biased?
You'll have difficulty moving apps to a SD card on Android especially since ICS - as you say you need to be rooted (with the extra problems that brings) and you need the right scripts (or risk losing all your data). Android 4.1 Jelly Bean adds a new extra layer of difficulty to it and I can guess how it's headed on 4.2. Even when you get it working it's always hackish and apps run a lot slower (internal Flash is a lot faster and more power efficient than your store bought SD card)
Google has removed SD cards from their Nexus devices for more than business reasons you know..
I have a PhD in Physics, run Linux clusters in my day job and still find the iPad better for me. Are you suggesting I'm not technical enough?
And USB for GPS?? Or a HDD??
I guess a HDMI port is useless as well?
Not sure what your point is except showing off your dick size?? I couldn't care less who buys the iPad, and genuinely want one for my mother, it has nothing to do with you.
But your response is pointless and arrogant - fact is additional functionality cannot be limited compared to a device without the functionality, it's additional. When abroad without wifi I'm very happy to have an SD slot, and I'm sure many others are the same.
I think the screen on this one is totally worth it, I do a lot of reading and have a couple of magazines on my old one. You'll also get all the new features of iOS 6 like Siri and 3D Flyover.
