Just realised I am not quite the Apple fanboy that I once was ... should have known this. How very confusing though having top of the range model in two sizes, surely it is a pro + like with the iPhone?!

Is it just me who thinks £609 is ridiculously expensive for a tablet that will be out of date in a couple of years?

Under £50 per inch! Sold!

Excellent deal, thank you posting, heat added

No, The Royal Society of Psychologists have officially stated that Apple purchasing is a form of addiction. Some would speculate it is a disease others just a severe form of maladaptive behaviour.

Sold my Surface Pro 3 i5 256gb model and bought a 128gb ipad 9.7 and more than happy with the swap over.

Big iPhone comments and elitism between brands gets boring. I have used my ipad more in the 1 month I have owned it than the Surface owning it over 12months.

All down to buyers needs and preference.
Though companies do enjoy the sheep mentality and unfortunatly Sony are having a bash at it with the confusing introduction of Playstation 4 Pro!
The 4k TV and HDR is yet another mindfield for consumer confusion.

Anyways....not sure what im waffling about now........

Anyways good price for the iPad if this particular one is good enough for your needs.

Depends on what you do with it. I have both sizes and the iPad Pro (12.9) is fantastic for consuming media and browsing on. It barely leaves the house but gets a lot more use than my laptop does.

12.9 inches, reminds me of something else oO

I agree with the initial comments above, this doesn't seem enough memory.

People keep asking what the "Pro" moniker on these devices is for without stopping to think for a second what a "pro" even is. A professional, quite simply, is somebody who earns a living from doing a certain thing.

As a result, the iPad Pro is the perfect device for anybody who can use it as part of their workflow or to earn a living. These will include professional artists or graphic designers who can benefit from the Pencil support that only the "pro" iPads provide.

I've owned both this and the Surface Pro and, for me, the latter is better as I can run certain desktop apps that have no equivalent on iOS. But I can equally see why somebody would want a lightweight device for drawing in, say, Procreate with the sophistication provided by the Apple Pencil. Yes, the Surface Pen has similar functionality but it doesn't have, for instance, shading and tilt support.

Sometimes we just have to use the best tools for the job and it really doesn't matter who makes them. If you don't need the Pencil or simply don't want a huge iPad with 4 GB of RAM, this device isn't for you. But that doesn't mean it's merely a fashion accessory – for some people, they will earn back the cost of this in no time whatsoever.

No, it's too much for me to spend as well mainly because I'm not a fan of the Apple ecosystem, but I also wouldn't use it enough to justify that cost.

Now for someone who is made happy using Apple products, maybe has a professional use for it that helps them work better than alternatives, and who use it for thousands of hours that cost doesn't seem so bad. I probably spend more on coffee.

Show me any Apple hardware that is out of date in 2 years? In fact Apple has better longevity than any of its competitors, holds its value better too.

You can buy it for less directly from Apple - refurbished, it's true, but as new for all practical purposes. And they have larger memory versions as well...

What do you expect it to do? What a strange comment. It's just an iPad because it is an iPad!

It will still work in a "couple of years". For a lot of people an ipad is all the computer they need and if you want a large screen this is the best your going to get.

Replace 'ipad' with tablet and yes you're right. I recently went away and normally take both my laptop and iPad. This time I just took the iPad and to be fair I could do about 90% of the things I wanted to do with relative ease. Sometimes though... you just miss a mouse!

I have this iPad and it's great, I couldn't go back to a smaller size now, it's so nice just having something you can use as a TV. People say it's too big... no it's not, you'd never walk around with a 9.7 inch iPad, you'd carry it in a bag.... so what is the difference? You can easily fit this in a bag and it's pretty light.

It's replaced my Laptop in a way my old 9.7 inch iPad couldn't, it's even slightly bigger than my Laptop screen lol.

I would never spend anything like that on a phone!

32GB is okay for some as clearly not everyone requires loads of internal storage.

Don't Apple use Intel chips, the ones designed for Windows machines?

Apple design their own processors for the ipad/iphone

I've had my ipad 5 years. It still does what I want it to. It is still on its original battery too so not sure why a current model would be out of date in a couple of years.

I also use a Samsung tablet for work. Over 2 years old and going strong.

Possibly a new 12.9 iPad in October?

No it was an imperative statement- all I left out was a capital and an exclamation mark, and the extra 'i' was a typo. of course.

I was wondering if it was worth waiting for a new model rather than purchase now. A quick googling suggests maybe not until next year, so in that case this would be a worthwhile purchase now

In which case this device isn't for you. It's not aimed at you.
