This is my first post.
Yesterday I found out that O2 is now unlocking Iphone 5 for free..!!
I am on pay monthly contract and bought my contract three months back. I called couple of time for unlocking after purchase but there was no positive reply.
Just found out yesterday evening and send online request form also through online chat. And today morning my Iphone 5 is unlocked. So quick...send request evening and unlocked at morning...wow..!!

Unfortunately No to pay as you go but like other network who charges even you are on pay monthly...like Orange (EE), three etc.

I bought my iPhone through eBay, don't know whether it's Pay&go or contract. And I have never called with this O2 sim, just use it to receive calls what can I do?

It doesnt matter if you bought from ebay or apple as long as its locked to o2 and you have a o2 pay monthly contract then its free.

And if you have pay as you go then its £15 i think.

If for Iphone 5 as well than very good....!

Top...just done it using their online chat, should be unlocked in 72 hours.

If using the online chat have the following ready:

1. Original number the phone came with...we'd ported our old number but that's not the one to use
2. IMEI number
3. Account password - O2 chat guy asked me for the 3rd & 5th characters of the security question which I didn't even know I had at which point he said "The security answer is your password"...pidgin English was the order of the chat...

To check it's unlocked they tell you to insert a non-O2 sim and log in to iTunes....we don't have non-O2 sim yet but was told the "unlatching code" is valid "til a month or more"...had to double check with him that it would still be valid in June and was told "Yes"

Awesome, thanks!

its valid indefinitely since the code is specific to your handset

about bloody time!! thanks for the heads-up!

O2 have always unlocked iPhones for free if u have a contract with them. Handy to let others know but it isn't new.

Wrong the cool
02 were not unlocking iphone5 at all, for anyone.

This is brand new , very happy to see it finally here.

It's always been free for contract members, and yes they were unlocked iPhone 5s got mine and dads done 3 months after they came out

As long as it accepts an O2 sim all you do is make a few calls and use the unlock page to unlock ya phone I've used that unlock page of O2 for a few years now

It has always been free for o2 contract customers since iphone 3g.

I requested them through this form in early oct.12 after couple of dayz i received txt frm them that we don t unlock I phone 5 nw try later..Now I request again through this form ..Let c this time ...

Mine in unlocked within 2hours time... I sent request around 9.30 in the morning and about 11.30 I have received a message that said your your phone is completed and connect your phone to iTunes...

Mines unlocked now as well..I tried two weeks ago and they said they can't unlock my iPhone 5 so I'm over the moon right now

Thanks OP

do they unlock if you aren't the original owner i.e. bought second hand?

cheers

Yes you can but the catch is you have to pay 15 pounds. Read below this is what I read from their website...
Can I 'unlock' my iPhone and use it on another network?

For all other iPhones:

Pay Monthly customers

If you're a Pay Monthly customer, then you can unlock your iPhone* at anytime for free. This doesn’t affect your contract though – you’ll still need to see out the rest of it. This policy may vary according to the handset you have purchased.

To unlock your phone, just fill out this unlocking form and we’ll do the rest.

Please make sure you enter the mobile number that you purchased the phone with, as this will avoid any charges being incurred.

Once we’ve got your form, it’ll then take up to 72 hours for us to get it unlocked for you. Once it’s unlocked, we’ll text you to let you know. You can then put a non-O2 Sim into the iPhone and connect it to iTunes. iTunes will then tell you the phone is unlocked.

Pay & Go customers

Yes, you can unlock your iPhone or any other brand of phone locked to O2. It costs £15.00 and we’ll take this from your Pay & Go balance.

Once you have a balance of £15.00 or more on your phone, just fill out this unlocking form and we'll do the rest.

When we’ve received your form, we’ll send you your unlocking code and instructions what to do in 3 working days for an iPhone and 10 working days for any other phone.

Once you’ve unlocked your phone, we’ll text you to let you know. You can then put a non-O2 Sim into the iPhone and connect it to iTunes.

Business customers

If you're the main account holder, you can ask your individual users to complete the unlocking form and we'll unlock the iPhone* free of charge. This doesn’t affect your contract though – you’ll still need to see out the rest of it. This policy may vary according to the handset you have purchased.

Thanks for the heads up Op !!

Ordered a nano sim cutter to cut my micro sim

Awesome. Cost me £15 on Three :c

02's stance was that they were not unlocking iphone 5 as they wanted to keep the stock exclusive for 02 customers( been there since day 1). Finally after 6months they have revised this.
There have been reports that some iPhone5 were unlocked as the people on 02 side missed that they were iphone5 and unlocked them(well apparently). 02 have changed their stance and now iphone5 can OFFICIALLY be unlocked for all 02 customers as of a couple of days ago.

Iphone4s and below have been available for unlock for a long time.

put it back on ebay & get a decent phone?

Some lucky people on here. I've been waiting 6 days for 02 to unlock an iPhone 4S. Whenever I call they say its in progress but still no joy.

Nice 1

Great thanks

cheers!

You need to be the original owner to get them unlocked.
If you buy one from say ebay, voda will contact the original owner for permission.

T mobile won't unlock mine I lost mine in Barcelona. Got a second hand one. So I'm stuck with it locked to tmobile

Atlast they have done it

You can buy a o2 pay n go sim and make couple of calls. Then O2 will unlock it for you but at £15.

Or if you know someone with O2 contract, get them to make couple of calls using this phone and then apply for free unlock using the above link.

Just tried to unlock my iphone 4s locked to vodafone but called up and they said I couldn't unlock it because it wasn't bought from vodafone

Vodafone will NOT unlock your iPhone unless you are the original owner nor contact them if you're not. If you bought it from eBay or 2nd Hand, you need to provide the original Proof of Purchase e.g. the contract paperwork. If you can't provide one, unlucky

They send me tx with gud news that ur iphone is unlock now ...connect to itunes...Thnx o2...
