Follow the link or go to O2.CO.UK
2. Select the relevant phone
3. Select SHOW TARRIFS
4. Select SHOW MORE
5. Find the tarrif with the corresponding UP FRONT COSTS from the OP (DO NOT worry about the monthly cost, they will not match the OP pricing)
6. At the bottom it will clearly state the device plan cost (which should match the OP) ***THE REASON FOR THIS IS THE AIRTIME CAN BE CANCELLED WITHOUT CHARGE***
7. Receive phone in post/pick up phone
8. Request unlock code
9. Call up and cancel airtime and pay off device plan
10. (OPTIONAL) Cancel the DD for the airtime and device plan. This will remove the chance of O2 incorrectly charging you for the airtime contract, which has happened in a few unfortunate cases.
More or less the jist of it copy n pasted from another deal

Didn't know you could cancel 24 month contracts that easily

8gb lol

the porter, you are a very patient person with a lot of time on your hands. Well done for those instructions.

Are there any refresh deals still available for the 5s please? I can see that they have refurbs in stock, but can't work out which option to select for the best 'cancel airtime' deal. Thanks.

u can with refresh

Okay, so you pay the £120 and get the phone and how long before you should cancel the airtime contract?

The day you receive it

Wow what a faff. Cold.

Fair enough and there's no penalty if you do and/or they can't force you to change to another contract. I am presuming the phone is paid up, so they can't ask for it back and you merely cancel the airtime contract when you get the phone or within the 14 days, obviously don't use it or you are liable for charges?

I am PAYG with o2 anyway, only use about a tenner worth of calls per year, but it would be good to get a newer phone.

Can you even fit the operating system on 8gb?

£120 for a 8GB memory phone?? Meeehhhh

I see people with those tiny (in comparison) sized screens on their IPhone 5/4 now, & I think they look so dated. Either that or they`re mistaken for an Alcatel Pixi

Calm down kids, for 8GB you can get almost £100 if you recycle. What another 8GB phone can get that much huh?

What do you mean pay off device plan? Do you not pay the £120 in one sum?

Yea I ordered, says next day as I wanted it urgent now saying 8 December. If I find one on this site to buy I'm just not gonna collect and get my refund. Okay deal nonetheless, seen 16gb go for £120 though

I'm seeing 192 for 16gb is that correct? I pay 192 upfront then cancel airtime when I receive phone?

Original Poster

Correct

did this exact same deal a few months ago and 02 charged me the full 24 months line rental after cancelling So would highly recommend canceling direct debit step

Suggest you do NOT cancel your direct debit - even though it is annoying, if you cancel and they expect payment but do not receive it they will mark your credit file with a missed payment. They did this to me even though I cancelled and left the DD in place (they didn't bill me, didn't notify me, the first I knew was when I was rejjected for a new bank account and found out there was a red mark on my credit file!)..

I am confused by this, what reason do you give for cancelling the air time and how likely are they to charge you. For anyone who was charged did you manage to get your money back?

You don't need a reason, but if you want one, say you have found another deal elsewhere. 50/50 chance of being charged (possibly higher) but 100% chance of it being refunded as you are followig their T&Cs and they aren't (and haven't for everyone consistently since they introduced Refresh - it is a shame their system was not set up to be able to process this effectvely and they have had over 2 years of annoying people by charging in breach of their own T&Cs). The key to preventing problems is ensuring you have enough money in your account to cover it if they take the full contract out.

Having a mare with o2. They are saying they can't send unlock code as it has never been used with an o2 SIM, and that I need to use the phone. Thing is it a present and content to do that plus don't want to get charged anything for contract. Going to just return it

i rang 02 they said it cant be done you cannot cancel the agreement if you do they charge more

That is odd, because I have a copy of a chat conversation which confirmed you can pay off the handset and cancel the contract, what you have been told goes against what they actually say on their website, I ordered the phone, but don't like it at all so I am sending it back, even that is turning out to be a hassle, so wish I had not even bothered to be honest...but oh well a lesson learned I suppose.
If you really wanted the deal you could look on their site at the refresh terms and conditions which clearly state that if you pay off the handset you are then free to leave or upgrade...unless I have misread something ;-)

They are talking rubbish just put the phone down and speak to someone else

Received the white 5c all ok. It was in pristine condition and not even registered previously. Paid off the device all ok and they closed the airtime contract immediately. Stuck my ee sim in and it turns out it was already unlocked. No issues as at all. Basically, new 5c with 12 month warranty for £120. Top cash back also tracked at £35 (but that is likely to bounce of course. Hot for me and worked for me.

Do you request unlock code, use it, then cancel airtime?
