iPhone 7 Perfectly Fine 32Gb O2 Refresh - £303

Just noticed, O2 have dropped their prices for Like new iPhones.

The best deal I could find was for iPhone 7 32Gb Perfectly fine, Tariff £109 upfront and £33 plan for 5Gb. This brings the cost to £7*24 + £109 = £277

Using the usual O2 refresh trick, you can request the unlock for free, pay the remaining balance upfront and call to cancel the airtime before your 14 days return period is up. Even if the CSR insists a 30 Days notice, you end up paying the £33 for 1 month, making the phone's total cost = £303.

I know a new iphone is coming soon, but at this price, iPhone 7 is still a good choice and you get a full 12 months warranty from O2.

refresh how to guide.

Order your phone from o2. Every contract at o2 is a refresh contract, however, these like new, perfectly fine or almost perfect are significantly cheaper and go as low as this deal from time to time. As per this deal order a contract that has £109 upfront and £33 monthly. In terms and conditions, you can see that your contract is broken down into air time price and device price. Your Device price will be £7 per month which totals to £168 over 24 months and your air time price will be £26 per month.
Once you receive your new device and you are happy with its overall condition you can then insert the sim card that comes with your device. Once inserted follow these steps:

    1) Make sure you avoid calling/texting or using data as that will be classed as using your contract and therefore will mean that you will get some charges depending on how much you have used.
    2) Once you have inserted your sim card, go to o2.co.uk/myo2 and go under your device it should be displayed there and request an unlock code or download a myo2 app and do it through there but make sure you use wifi and not your data.
    3) Once you have requested to unlock your device you are now free to contact o2 customer services to pay off your device plan and cancel your contract.
    4) Ring 202 from the same device and same sim card (that won't give you any charges as it's a free number)
    5) Go straight to thinking about leaving us department, can't exactly remember what number you need to press as I haven't done o2 refresh myself for ages.
    6) When you get through to someone, be polite, say that you want to pay-off your device plan which will be £168 and that you want to cancel your airtime.
    7) When they ask you why you want to cancel the airtime just tell them that phone is a very good value but air time doesn't sound like a good deal.
Then they will ask you to give your card details and your device is now paid off.
    9) Confirm that your airtime was cancelled immediately as well.
    10) Receive your unlock code within 48 hours and unlock your device.
    11) You may get charged for the first month because you receive your bill as soon as your phone is despatched pretty much but don't worry about it.
    12) Keep checking for the refund and to make sure that there's no early cancellation fee because sometimes they mess that up as well.
    13) Should you have any problems contact customer services again and explain that your contract should have been cancelled and you shouldn't have any charges.

    F.A.Q

Can I pay for my device plan monthly even after cancelling my airtime contract?

No, you can only pay the device in full immediately in order to benefit from this.

Some people from HUKD have benefited from £50 refund in the past when o2 messed up their cancellations and charged them £300+ early fee which shouldn't have been charged in the first place.

done it on 4 different phones and theyve messed up 3 out of 4. once they charged me with airtime for the whole duration of the contract and the other 2 times they charged me one months airtime . Just phone and request cancellation of the airtime and pay off the mobile phone after youve activated the sim and requested the unlock preferably via myo2 app.
if you do have issues like I had , fire off an email to their complaints department who are usually really good and more than likely you'll get a small compensation of around £20.

Agreed. The problems are usually resolved after you've spoken to a few advisors but expect things to not go smoothly with this kind of thing.

Make sure to cancel the direct debit when you cancel the airtime.
I ended up having to call them 3 times over 3 months when they started sending out you must pay off the full airtime balance emails. I wouldn't put myself through that again

They charged me something like £300+ cancellation for cancelling early then tried to blame me for not cancelling the direct debit.

I tried to explain it would have been even worse if they had tried to charge me and failed due to me cancelling the direct debit... Then I gave up and just let them refund me.

It shows on the credit report as closed account once you pay off the credit.

Maybe you are right. I recently got a phone like this and cancelled my contract after getting phone unlocked and paying it off. But these cheeky people took money out of my account. I called my bank the next day and was immediately refunded by the bank. But not sure by cancelling this direct debit, O2 can put a negative mark on my credit report.

Hi. Would you kindly share/send that email please?
    hot
Should this not be £277 rather than £303? I believe you are within your rights to cancel the airtime within 14 days as a cooling-off period? I presume paying the device off will have no affect on this?
I am tempted myself but know this won't come with headphones and I won't be able to use my usual headphones. Will need to get a decent pair of Bluetooth headphones.
I have already tried the Chinese Bluetooth headphones from Amazon and they are no good.
    Thank you everyone

Is this the correct deal ?

Probably because your credit isn't so good, so they want some money upfront. Had to do it with o2 once when I had just moved and my name wasn't on Electoral Roll.
