Good price but I think the JL warranty isn't as good as people say.

They never replace initially and take your product aways for weeks, so if you need a laptop or phone for daily use their warranty is kind of crap as you have to wait too long for a repair.

Places like Argos just replace on the spot.

Got to be getting close to some iPhone x deals soon.

Great deal thanks for posting. I love that John Lewis give you a 2 year guarantee unlike most other retailers.

Personally not a fan of either the product or the retailer, but I appreciate that for those who are, this is a good deal. Voted hot
Last couple of days I saw several deals on iPhone 8 prices coming down.. is it due to GBPUSD ?
You can get £35 off Beatsx wireless headphones when buying this, too (check the promotional message on the product page)- total cost £732
bear in mind that JL's are sim free but NOT unlocked, it will lock to the 1st sim inserted... (at least for iPhone 7 and earlier, think they'll do the same to 8 and x)
cold. iPhone 8 is just bad value when you consider you could get an iPhone 7 significantly cheaper.

How old is this phone... for this price ?!
Junk
I love Apple products and already have the iPhone 8 from the Very deal. The idea of the extra warranty is good on this but like it was pointed out, can sometime take awhile to get your item back from repair. I once took something in store under warranty only to receive it back at my house the next day and my first thought was how quick and efficient they were until I opened it and realised they hadn't touched it. They in fact sent the broken one back to me instead of to the repair place! I'm sure those incidents are rare but it still took 2 weeks to get back.

from jl website

What is SIM free?
You'll receive the iPhone without having to commit to any network, leaving you free to decide which SIM card to use in the device. This gives you the opportunity to find the most suitable plan, whether that’s contract or pay-as-you-go, throughout the lifetime of the phone. You also have the option to add a foreign SIM card, so you can use the iPhone overseas.

If you look in the description on the top right it includes an extra word which I will argue if the phone locks to My network when I insert the sim:

iPhone SE purchased from JL that will take any SIM, here. Obviously can’t confirm for every model made.

Agreed. Apple will honour warranty type faults for two years (even longer, in many cases). JL seem fine when low value items break , often issuing an on the spot replacement, but the higher value items (TV, surface pro) were at the service centre for weeks.

I think you get 2 years directly from Apple anyway isn't? Or the consumer law has changed after Brexit?

That's not a thing. Sim free = unlock. Sim lock are put in place by providers when you buy a mobile directly from them, what you're describing doesn't exist, at least in Europe.

My last 2 iPhones came from JL and they are both unlocked.

Nope, that's not correct. I have a 6S from JL and its totally unlocked. JL confirmed 2 years ago when I bought the phone.

No you don’t. Only if you can prove the fault was inherent and appeared within the first 6 months. They will just send you to the retailer who will send you to apple to get them to say “inherent fault” which they won’t. it’s a fake law to give you piece of mind when spend £700 on a computer that won’t last 2 years daily use.
You have to buy direct from apple to get the 2 years or even better don’t buy them (owner of all iPhones-until my wife SE broke on an overnight update 14 months into its life)

Brexit hasn't happened yet so I would expect nothing has changed to date.

You actually get 6 years from the retailer (not the manufacturer) as statutory BUT as pointed out it will only cover 'inherent' faults and after 6 months its up to you to prove the fault was 'inherent'

The 2 year JL 'warranty' is on top of you statutory rights, I don't think you need to prove anything is 'inherent' if you want to claim on their warranty.

Software Updates do not ‘break’ phones. If your ‘wife’s’ phone was unusable after the update you’d take it into the Apple store to get the Genius Bar to look at it. They are able to sort out most software problems.

Yeah I’d have thought that too. But they initially said there was no hardware fault so they said software. On the second visit they said hardware. Difficult really battery percentage was always 2% but it would recognise iTunes UNTIL it rebooted during the restore process :-/
If only they could drop the iPhone X price to that lol
All Apple products now have a 2yr manufacturers warranty (same as Samsung).
All Apple phones are unlocked when bought too. They then lock to the network of the 1st sim put in
Nice find, good deal. Also worth pointing out that the larger iPhone 8 Plus is currently priced at £759 with John Lewis rather than the normal Apple retail price of £799. So if you are after an iPhone plus, you can get the same discount!

Total and absolute rubbish!
Extra 1 year warranty that Apple can't provide for a £659 phone is a joke.Should be 2 years.Wouldnt touch a premium device with a 1 year warranty.

And it's really a "one year extra warranty" - Apple would do all their usual instant repairs and replacements during the first 12 months. Any time at the JL Service Centre could only occur in year 2 (and might be rather unlikely with the build quality of iPhones)

I've got an iPhone purchased from JL. It's unlocked. I can switch SIM as I please.

They may have been SIM FREE rather then UNLOCKED (although those terms are often used interchangeably so be careful) in the past, but the blurb someone else posted clearly shows that is not the case now.

Carphone warehouse used to be notorious for selling SIM FREE iPhones and not making it clear to the customer. I know this caused lots of customers serious grief. As the Networks they'd locked to would drag their feet unlocking. But I believe even Carphone Warehouse now supply unlocked iPhones.

Thats really disappointing to hear I had an expensive coffee machine which they did refund after 2 years because Delonghi kept returning it un-repaired. Whilst that was very good of them, I wouldn't be best pleased if they expected me to wait for weeks to get my phone repaired. At least in the first year I can just take to Apple.
I love the way people think this 2 year warranty is somehow special. Every retailer has to abide to two years regardless of what their literature says.
