Welcome to iPhone SE, the most powerful 4-inch phone ever. To create it, we started with a beloved design, then reinvented it from the inside out. The A9 is the same advanced chip used in iPhone 6s. The 12-megapixel camera captures incredible photos and 4K videos. And Live Photos bring your images to life. The result is an iPhone that looks small. But lives large.

Design

A beloved design. Now with more to love.

iPhone SE takes an incredibly popular design and refines it even further. Crafted from bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish, this light and compact phone is designed to fit comfortably in your hand. A brilliant 4-inch Retina display makes everything look vibrant and sharp. And matte-chamfered edges and a color-matched stainless steel logo finish the look.

Technology

The most powerful 4-inch phone ever.

At the core of iPhone SE is the A9, the same advanced chip that's in iPhone 6s. With 64-bit desktop-class architecture, the A9 chip

I'm considering being an Apple hater, would this be the time to launch into unprovocted tirade finishing with a reference to Hitler or Brexit?

I got an iPhone SE from this eBay seller last time there was a deal on. It was in Good condition and it really has no marks on it at all. Still a powerful little phone.
Except for the battery which had obviously had some use and didn't last a day on a charge. So, got a £10 battery case from eBay and all good. I'm an Android user, so this is useful for Facetime while we're isolating.

That would be what would concern me buying a phone this age. Out of interest, how many hours per day do you get out of it with average/heavy use?

I played around with it for a couple of days when I first got it and from what I remember battery life was perhaps 12-ish hours. That's with pretty heavy use. But got myself one of these......
Battery Case .....and it now lasts a couple of days. Must admit, I don't use it much...mainly Facetime. And I'm guessing Apple will only support it for another couple of years...if that.
The 5se has a better battery than some of the bigger iPhone screen models. Just saying.
I use this daily, cracking little phone. Size is perfect for me.
Many thanks op, purchased one. I hate anything Apple with a vengeance but my 89 year old mum is on Facetime so needs must.

Doesnt apple store replace battery at cheap rate or something?
Says more than 10 available, but you can't choose anything as they're all oos?

I just checked in the app, is still available and adds to the basket.
Everyone saying they are getting this for Facetime, but can't you use say, WhatsApp video call instead? Is Facetime quality better?
dilipalai03/04/2020 00:25

Will it work with iwatch 4?

It will.

But the SE will be 5 years old next year, at which point Apple usually deprecate devices for the next iOS update. Given it was released mid cycle, you may get the 2021 iOS update, or this Septembers update could be the last one.

Your Apple Watch S4 will still work with it after that point. But it may stop you updating the watch OS. That's what happened to people with the iPhone 6 (and below) when the last watch OS was released.

For ~£50 it may not be a big issue ofcourse, especially if you can sell it and recoup some of that back.

They might have family members using facetime.
Timpsons in the high street/outside supermarkets replace the iPhone batteries. I once replaced my wife’s 5S there for £20 and iPhone 6 battery for £40 in the past. Job done while you wait and 12 month warranty on all iPhone work. But I don’t know how many stores will be open right now

Hop apple make a new phone the same size as the se. I hate bigger phones
SantoshKaushik03/04/2020 10:18

lol. What will you do with 5?

Sell them at a profit no doubt. The downside of this site is the opportunistic parasites it attracts. Little wonder offers such as these don't last very long.

I imagine the people who abuse these deals are likely the same sort who tried to sell 16 paracetamol tablets for 11.99 on eBay.
its refurbished
Had my SE for years and it's a cracking little phone. I've now upgraded and don't know if I cold go back, but as long as you don't go for the 16gb version this is perfect for those that don't need, or want, a large phone with them

I’m not sure about your comment regarding eligibility for updates. The SE stopped being sold by Apple in Sept 2018, it is also part of the first generation of dual core processors together with the 6S that have a massive jump in performance in comparison to the 6 and previous. I think it has more life left in it for updates than 5 years from original sale date.
I suspect the price drops for the SE will be more so due to the imminent release of a new iPhone of similar size, effectively replacing the SE. It’s also supposed to be a “budget” iPhone so will have a knock on effect on the secondhand market.
All in all, £56 for an SE is pretty good value at the moment.
Hammondhammond03/04/2020 10:31

Yes but they're shut at the moment.

Yeah, but most people are at home so it won't be difficult to stick it on charge. You can get the battery replacement once we all can get out again.

I had one for years, never wanted anything larger. But now that I've got an XR, I couldn't go back.
Picked up an SE for my youngest to take photos and message the grandparents with a few months ago. Arrived from music magpie in perfect condition but the battery only lasts three hours if that

No because that would just be you projecting your actual views and beliefs on an audience disinterested in them.
Immaterial ....as unfortunately none are available to purchase

I appreciate there isn't always a linear jump in hardware capability. But thats not the only consideration for deprecation. Once the OS builds start to diverge significantly there's also the cost of maintaining divergent builds.

Perhaps you're right, given it was sold up until 2018 they may be forced to leave deprecation until 2023. Apple tend to be pretty good in this respect, the iPad 3 being the major exception, which was constrained by hardware. Perhaps that will also mean the 6S is carried forward for longer.
