Any problem with them being refurb?

Bought one from this seller and it looked like it done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Tbf returns process was painless.

Refurbished used to mean something very different. Now it just means 2nd hand.
£300+ for over 2yo tech, no thanks

Yes eBay is rife with products describing themselves as ‘refurbished’. Refurbished to me should be that it is basically brand new (battery etc replaced with a new one, screen mint) but repackaged and possibly missing some accessories. As you say, most products on eBay listed as refurbished just seem to be ‘people’s bashed up old phone that we have factory reset’.

Exactly!
Here is an Apple refurbished iPhone X 64GB. A snip at £699.

This will be professionally assembled from certified components and will be 100% immaculate with a brand new battery and the same warranty as a new phone; the ‘refurb’ in this thread will likely be someone’s old phone with unknown provenance and a knackered old battery. It might even have been previously repaired by a chump with a screwdriver, so it might have an unofficial screen, unofficial battery or it may have lost its waterproofing.

It’s a lot cheaper though, so might be worth a gamble if you have the time. I had a refurb iPhone 8 from Giffgaff that had 78% battery capacity and a fake screen, so if a company like that can’t get it right all the time then god only knows what eBay shops are like.
Giffgaff do these for 350, and I rate their refurbished and especially their support/returns.
Picked up from music magpie £300 last month.
Good condition means it will have few scratches, maybe 1-3 dents on corners etc.

I’ve had mixed results with Giffgaff - started off well but I had two duffers: one completely mint 6S that was immediately overheating, and which turned out to have a defective battery (Apple did repair it for free, luckily) and an 8 that had a clearly completely fake screen.

This isn’t Music Magpie though. Here’s the state of one of the phones I got from an eBay store (with lots of feedback) in 2018. This was the next grade up from ‘good’ for them. I’m not saying they’re all like this of course, but I certainly wouldn’t expect parity with larger companies like Music Magpie.

I had a refurb from O2 of this phone that was as new with new battery and full apple warranty, but at the time reviews were mixed as some received bashed ones. So one persons experience with these may vary from anothers, even from the same company
I would definitely check your screen when you get it, be sure to put it side by side with another iPhone X.

I had an inferior iPhone 8 screen from them with the NFC not working, you would only noticed the screen difference when comparing it side by side with another phone.

Normally not original screens. When buying any iphone off of ebay you need to ask 1) it it the original screen, 2) is it the original battery and what the battery health.

Loads on ebay with cheap screen replacements
