I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's Apple after all. I reckon it'll be akin to the entry iPad. i.e. it'll be an iPhone 8 with the same processor as XS and single or double lens camera which doesn't quite match the current 11.

Don't get me wrong. I'd personally love and edge-to-edge iPhone SE with the spec of an XS or 11.

Also $399 / £399 is optimistic. I reckon at least £499 otherwise it'll damage their 11 sales.

My first iPhone was 4, and I had 5, 5S, 6, 7 and 8 Plus. I worked in the industry and also dabbled with a Nexus 4 and Sony Z3. When I had the 8 Plus, which was £799 RRP I was looking at the X prices of £999 and basically decided Apple were taking the mick, because the next one would probably be £1099 then £1199 and so on.... so I decided to move to a budget Android (Mi A2 Lite), great phone apart from the camera, and I cut down on my usage but I missed having a good camera. I had a Pixel 3 for a while and the camera was incredible BUT battery was very poor. I now have a Mi 9T and love it. The Mi 10 isn't overly thrilling or tempting, so I'll see what Apple announce next month, if anything. Maybe I'll be swayed back, or I'll stick with Android. Who knows... My Mrs and my mum both got cracking deals on the XR (£17pm for one, £329 for the other) so maybe I'll get lucky with a misprice somewhere, but if not, this 9T should last another year easy.

No point arguing over which is better because everyone has different preferences. I rate Apple for what they do, I have an iPad Mini and MacBook Pro and no other tablet or computer competes with them, but the phones are a lot closer. It's all down to usability and performance in your hand, not on the sheet.

Apologies for the over-sharing, quiet morning for me

I’ve just upgraded my son to an 11, whilst I’m using an XS. TBH, sided by side to the naked eye, the screens aren’t miles apart. The resolution difference is barely perceptible. The largish bezel round the edge of the screen is, though.

Build quality and feel seems the same on both models, but then, they’ll both be in cases.

Camera on the 11 feels like a multi generational leap over the XS.

Can’t comment on battery life yet.

So which is better surgical or military grade? In these present times surgical is more useful.

I agree. Currently have the 11 Pro but I’m not sure at present what I’d recommend to a new buyer considering they’re both about the same price. Perhaps the 11 just beats it with it’s faster processor and additional wide angle lens (which is really useful) but lacks the OLED display

Thanks I’m unsure which to choose they seem very similar

XS any day any time.
XS was premium range.11 was midrange.
11 has marginally faster processor because it is newer but a cheaper, lower range device with noticeably lower resolution/lower quality screen and lower build quality.
if you want 11 then go for 11 Pro.

Thanks for the reply. The XS does seem to be better quality. Anytime apple do the “rainbow” colour range as to say it’s usually an inferior product. 5C, XR and now 11

When you say massively, how much extra are we talking?

I would be upgrading from the iPhone SE and currently leaning towards the XS for it being smaller than the 11, better screen and premium feel. I appreciate that the 11 has a better processor and camera although i don’t think I would notice a significant performance boost.

Coming back to the battery life, assuming this would be better on the XS compared to SE? Currently happy with the usage I get out of the SE on a single charge.

The standard 11 was an upgrade of the XR and the 11 Pro an upgrade of the XS. So if comparing against a standard 11 then the XS is by far the better buy, plus can be had brand new for around £520 on the deal posted here: hotukdeals.com/dea…429

not massively, slightly better batter life but then again overall product feel and quality is without any doubt inferior to XS.

Iphone 11 you want. We have both phones..the 11 outworks and outlasts the xs. Better camera, night mode, wide angel, faster processor, much longer battery life, slightly bigger screen, better durability, newer design, more colour options etc
The list is endless
Forget about oled, you won’t be able to make difference especially if you will put in a cover

I’m sorry but the XS is still vastly superior to the standard 11. Of course you can tell the difference with an OLED screen, put them side by side and the difference is clear, plus you are using the wrong type of cover if you think it makes a difference to the OLED screen!

But the point is that there is potential to be a new similar sized competitor being released that matches the size criteria.

Fee rumours and nothing confirmed yet but I'm personally waiting on the news.

Wow now that's a reply. To be fair apple has be history of using latest soc in cheaper format using older external components. Se had 6s internals using 5s chassis, iPhone 8 had x internals using the 6/7 chassis and screen. No reason new se2 wouldn't do same, maybe with 3gb rather than 4gb ram and only single lens camera. Only time will tell but fingers crossed

Sorry, I was on a roll.

I think it could go either way. The SE was pretty much a 6S. The 8 was same processor but it came out the same time/quarter as the X and was the budget model in comparison. The last two iPads have had slower chips compared to the Air, Mini and Pros.

I reckon it'll be an iPhone 8, 3GB, single lens, up-to-date processor.
Agree. Some rumour sites are saying it’ll be an iPhone 9.

Yep, by nature and by name.
XS gains - less bulky, narrower bezels, better screen and was top of the range phone.

11 gains - better camera (especially in low light), bigger screen, better battery, force touch and faster processor.

Differences - XS is stainless steel 11 is aluminium. XS has wide angle and standard cameras, 11 has wide angle and extra wide angle.
I’ve looked at the screens of 11s and 11pros in Apple shops and can’t see any difference, I don’t think most people would see any difference either. I did notice the wider bezels though. Also don’t think there is any difference in build quality either, just different materials.
I’ve got a X and really like it, I’d probably choose a XS over a similarly priced 11 mostly because of the standard vs extra wide angle lenses.

It's all relative. You are not comparing the 3s with the 4 where there was a quantum leap. Most would be happy with the 11, just the xs is better. Find it laughable people want 4k screens, had lots of phones with 720p,1080p and 4k and can honestly say 720p is 'good enough' 1080p is perfect and 4k is a battery draining bragging machine.

1080p is fine in a phone to be honest. 450ppi is also great and more is not noticeable

It’s all about perception. Is the screen better on my XS? Probably, yes. Is it night and day difference? No.

Pick the phone that offers you want you want for the price your willing to pay, but personally, the differences in screen quality wouldn’t be high on the agenda.

11 aaaalllllll day long. Battery life blows the XS out of the water. It’s “faster” too. Screen is great on the 11, ok not OLED or whatever but very nice. I went from the XR to the 11 Pro Max, and now wish I hadn’t spent the money - for me no significant upgrade to warrant the crazy money. The XR did everything I needed and more. It’s also bigger than the XS, which I like. Go with the 11 imo. You won’t regret it. My opinion anyway

Each to their own buddy. I’m not huge into photography so I don’t get the benefits myself. I don’t doubt if you know what you’re doing it’s beneficial :), I do like the better portrait mode tho. The screen really wasn’t that much of an upgrade for me. It is sharper, but again, I was happy with the XR. It’s just a huge amount of money which for me isn’t justified. Cheers.
I was in this exact same predicament. For similar money (£629) I got the 11 for various reasons.

128GB
The camera is a lot better
It’s faster
A year more support from Apple
Battery is better
Screen is bigger

Yes the XS is a more premium build. But who can tell with a case on? Its a tiny OLED screen, honestly if you’re that into the depth of blacks- watch films on tv?

Each to their own of course! but the fact we’re comparing the XR (ie the 11) replacement to the top of the range last year XS shows how good the 11 is.
Its personal preference but xs over 11 for me, I can just about get away with the size of the xs, 11pro but the standard 11 and last years xs are just too big and cumbersome especially with a case on
