Don't know why but this is one of my all time favourite comedies and still makes me laugh to this day...yes I know it's another series that is not politically correct but this is probably what makes it funny

The complete series 1-8 of the classic British television wartime sitcom about a group of misfit soliders in the entertainment division of the British Army in Burma during the Second World War, led by the irascible Sergeant Major Williams (Windsor Davies).

Meet the gang 'cause the boys are here,
The boys to entertain you!
With music and laughter to help you on your way,
We're raising the rafters with a hey-hey-hey!
With songs and sketches and jokes old and new,
With us about, you won't feel blue!
So meet the gang 'cause the boys are here,
The boys to entertain you!
B-O-Y-S - boys to entertain yooooooooo!

What gets me about it is that you can't erase history by trying to pretend it didn't exist and when you watch some of the older comedies/programmes it gives an interesting insight/reflection of the era and also demonstrates how attitudes can change over time.
Land of Hope & Glory.........

SHUT UP!!!!

Windsor Davies...absolutely hilarious

And Melvyn Hayes as "Gloria" - probably one of the first tranny characters on British TV

Great show. I could remember it fondly albeit quite vaguely from being a kid in the 70's. But got to watch them all a few years ago and only realised then how good they were.

Totally agree...they really don't make them like they used to and not sure that a lot of the comedies that are around these days will be as funny in 40 years time

Actually just laughed out loud and much to my shame I have to admit I'm sitting watching an episode from the first series whilst I type...just had a sudden urge to dig out the DVD's and stick them on

I'll translate that for everyone else's benefit: "Yeah and there was more T&A on the TV"

You are of course referring to the well known publication The Bradford Telegraph and Argus

I loved the sheer look of disdain on Windsor Davies face when La di dah Gunner Graham said anything.
Great deal by the way, thanks Tigger

Forgot to say it would also be nice if the BBC could repeat something else apart from Dad's Army (also written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft) once in a while....strange how they don't seem to think that's offensive to those that did actually volunteer for the Home Guard considering it portrays them as a bunch of bumbling idiots
This will never be shown on TV because of the PC brigade......
Asian parts played by white actors is a no no and don't forget the phrase 'poofter' towards Melvyn Hayes character.

Great Show better than most sanitised rubbish we are subjected to nowadays.
