I’d love to stop this growing trend to call Christmas “the holidays” like they do in America. Creeping more and more over here now I know its an american product, but i’m guessing its been made for the UK market

I'd say it's largely due to the multi-cultural society we now have. Americans also have people from various religions and backgrounds. I wouldn't say we're copying the Americans.

Don’t think its a Brexit issue. Its a cultural thing from TV, film and social media

Americanism’s have been creeping into UK English for a long time now. This one just annoys me. Not a big deal though really in the grand scheme of things

"Movie" used to bug me, and really bugged my dad ("It's a film!!), but I noticed him start using it not long ago And I'd say it's become part of my vocab too, though I'm sure I'd usually say 'film' still.

I noticed the "Christmas Markets" around me are called "Winter Wonderland" and "Festive Market" and similar. It's so as to be inclusive of others as possible.

I signed up to the actual jack daniels website a few years back and they used to send freebies, a calendar and drink coasters were among them, not sure if they still do though

Totally forgot about it until I read this, it always used to annoy my dad when I said cinema instead of 'the pictures'.

I've always said cinema
Anybody else find it amusing that this ‘American’ trend is happening during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday Sales 🤪?

Do Americans even say that? I've a lot of American friends and they say to 'the movies'

Me too, but my dad always used to say cinema was originally an American word which had caught on over here.

.......but there's always the possibility he was wrong. Never really questioned it tbh, my parents were in their mid 40s when I arrived so the English language would have evolved to some degree over that period of time anyway.

That could be before my time then, but fair enough. Cinema is likely American. We had Picture Houses a.k.a. Pictures :
