Jack Daniels Single Barrel 70cl Only £23 in Asda

Found 16th Feb 2015
It looks like Asda are starting to stock single barrel in some of their stores and are selling it for the ridiculously cheap price of £23.

The usual price for this in supermarkets is around £40. Even Costco have never got near to this price ( you would struggle to get it for this price in the states).

I found it in Asda Dalgety Bay. I checked Asda Chesser at lunchtime but they didn't have any or a SEL to suggest they stock it.

I bought two bottles ( it would have been rude not to) and there was still 4 bottles on the shelf at 6.30pm tonight.

The SEL doesn't suggest that this is on an offer or rollback so hopefully this will be the standard price (I can dream).

EDIT the price has gone up to £40 so I have expired the deal.

Normal Jack Daniels is a blend of different barrels. Every new batch they pick out the best barrels and set them aside. They then bottle each barrel as single barrel ie not a blend of different barrels. Single barrel is usually much smoother than standard JD.

The only issue with this is it goes down to easy, also slightly stronger 45% rather than 40%

Single barrel is much smoother than gentleman Jack (and stronger).

Bought my mate a bottle of this for his 30th last week at £41 :-(

Sorry but gentleman jack is a much smoother drink only because its mellowed twice whereas no.7 and single barrel is only mellowed once.

That said, its a lovely drink... One I'm drinking right now from Costco. If they have this in my ASDA, I'll be so happy.

My bad. Of course you are correct in terms of smoothness as the lower alcohol content and the second mellowing after ageing does take away a lot of the 'roughness' you associate with no.7. I suppose I was thinking flavour rather than smoothness. I perhaps should have said that it has a much more complex flavour as it hasn't had a lot of the flavour gained from ageing ( and single barrel is usually aged for longer than gentleman jack) removed with a second filtration. I have never been a fan of GJ as I don't think it justifies the price tag. There again I would never pay £40 for single barrel when I can get Evan Williams single barrel ( current vintage 2003) for £34 from Oddbins. In my opinion as good, if not better, than JD single barrel. Neither touch my personal favourite, Blanton's single barrel, though.

none at barnsley store now..:(

I'm not normally a whisky drinker but tried this and it's sooo tasty

I tried single barrel at my local for the first time with very high hopes. On the rocks I wasn't impressed at all. Had to mix the 2nd one with coke to make it palatable which kinda defeated the purpose...

This stuff taste like they took that very appealing part of normal Jack Daniels, and threw away the rest.
At this price I would buy a few, if I can find them.

Good idea, sadly it came in a fancy box so not sure it'd be accepted

Great price. Swapped a bottle with a gentleman in exchange for his daughters hand in marriage last year.
So that bottle cost an absolute fortune.

It is not fair and also is illegal........the woman in below article was doing similar thing

telegraph.co.uk/new…tml

They dropped the price of Woodfood's Reserve before Christmas, saying it was a roll back, but sure enough it's gone back up, so I imagine this will go back up at some point. If I hadn't just got a bottle of Blantons, I might be tempted. Great price though, and never tried it, so might treat myself!
