why cold?

The deluxe is much better than the 'standard' jamon they sell.

Bargain for the price.

Use it instead of bacon in carbonara, wrap chicken breasts in it, use it in risotto, make sandwiches, eat it freshly sliced, add it to stuffed peppers, fry it off for pasta dishes, add it to pizza, grate the dry bits and use it like you would herbs & spices for flavouring, it's so incredibly versatile and for £30 it's fantastic value.

soooo tempted. got one for Christmas last year and it lasted til Easter. beautiful.

they always have this, and always the same price

How long does it last and how can it be stored to make it last longer? And no jokes about locking it away from hubby to make it last longer please!!

Keep cool and covered. Rub last cuts with olive oil. If some looks too unappealing just cut it away lightly until you reach good stuff. It will keep an awful long time. Just likely to dry out a little but you can still use it for cooking. Bear in mind some of this stuff is matured for 2 years.

Is this nationwide or store specific. Is it in the leaflet??

I bought one on Friday. It's got a stand, but not a knife and sharpener.

Just don't do what I did and put cling film over! Went bad very fast!!!!
in Spain Thames cover with a dry tea towel so that's probably best

Great - going to get one for Xmas, same as last year. This will keep perfectly until then, unopened.

I don't really agree with some of the people above - this needs to be kept in a very cool place, a fridge would be perfect (but this is too big for most!), otherwise a cold cellar or outhouse. We have a cellar.

And once started, you probably should be thinking about finishing it all off within 2-4 weeks.

But great value and a very versatile bit of meat - shame no £5 off £40 deal!

Also great fun as various visitors over Xmas have fun carving slices etc.

Makes fantastic starters or breakfast just with fresh bread and maybe a few pickles

Asda do a good one for £10 more than this. Going against the grain of the hot deal I know, but its supposed to be alot better product than the LIDL Aldi options. Might give that one a try this Christmas.

Not to be stored in the fridge, as mentioned above, but at room temperature.

Mine kept perfectly for 14 weeks last Christmas after I opened it. Just keep cutting area covered in oil after you've finished cutting. Also don't trim off more of the fat than you will use.

if you store it a room temp ie about 20C you'll find it starts going bad very quickly once the pack is opened

A fridge won't be good for it as they're quite moist environments. Something cool and dry would be ideal!

Actually, a fridge is quite a dehydrating environment.

why cold?

I don't think you're supposed to warm it up.

these hams keep for weeks in the homes on the Costa Blanca where I live. as long a you follow the precautions and keep the ham in an airy place they will be fine.

For years I've had a leg of Serrano on the go most of the time.

- Do not put it in the fridge!
- Do not cover with clingfilm - just cover the cut meat with the excess fat from the first cuts and then a clean, dry, tea towel on top.
- coat with olive oil if not using again the next day or so
- the meat will last months, the only thing is it will start to get dry and difficult to cut when it's getting older. The meat is perfectly safe - it's thoroughly cured.
- if you do get bloom (note, it's known as a bloom and not mould) then you probably haven't done the olive oil treatment frequently enough, but wipe it off, cut off those parts & throw them away. You can then eat the freshly revealed & cut parts. It's not mould as such and isn't dangerous.
