To use Bluetooth on these requires the use of the google home app.

That doesn't sound like Bluetooth at all?

They're amazing speakers, sound much better than they have right to, well balanced and great bass
  3. Northerndave's avatar
Can these be paired as stereo speakers and are they able to play radio like Alexa?

    Yes and yes

No 3.5 jack is a shame

Can someone confirm that this deal has two charging docks and not just one? Thanks

Don't need them.. Bought them seems to good to pass up.. Especially with the great reviews everyone has left on here.. Can I ask a quick question to anyone on the know..???? 1. If I buy four will they link similar to a sonos setup or is a pair the best you will get?? 2. Can I bluetooth them to my TV or a 3rd party blue tooth transmitter attached to the headphone socket in my TV for a makeshift wireless surround style setup.. (appreciate it won't be all singing and dancing like a propper surround setup)

You can add all 4 to a group e.g. "downstairs speakers" and then play to that group (which you can set as a default). If stereo paired the 2 become 1 speaker in Google home / Spotify connect etc. So if you set them up as 2 stereo pairs then just add the 2 to a group (edited)

Can they be powered instead to have to use the battery? E.g. can they be used while docked? (edited)

Yep according to the reviews. Have ordered but don’t have them yet to confirm.

are they in 2 separate boxes or bundled together?

The JBL Link Music pair I bought 3 weeks ago were in 2 retail boxes enclosed in a bigger box complete with a handle.I'd expect the Link Portables are the same

Can you connect these to your phone data and use Google assistant that way?
    Tonycv51's avatar
You could connect them to a hotspot from your phone. Not sure how much data the assistant will use in the background though but would be ok for temporary use as the music itself won't use that much data

Mine arrived today. 2 boxed speakers in a dual pack box with handle

System firmware updated from 20334130 to 21441130 and cast firmware from 1.44.219548 to 1.52.272222

Have set them as a stereo pair and compared them to both nest audio and kygo, they're definitely better than the kygo pair and close to nest audio pair but missing a bit of base (at approx half the price). I guess if you've got apple phones then there's bonus of being airplay 2 as well

How did you do the update? Mine paired without needing to so didn't pursue
  11. MisterD's avatar
Thanks - mine arrived today and are now providing a great stereo pair from a discrete location above the kitchen cupboards. They actually give a better experience than the Sonos5 in the corner!

Great speakers - I have 3 of them in the house. Bought the 2-pack just before Xmas at £75 and thought that was a good price....this is outstanding value.

Hi, did you buy this? I'm looking to get this and split in tow, one as a gift and one to keep. Do you know if it comes packaged as 2 x single items as they would be sold individually? Or some specific twin pack packaging? Many thanks

Another item to note about JBL... Google recently made some changes to "speaker groups" that required a specific cast firmware or higher to keep them operating within a group. I have the older Link10 and Link20 devices that went out of "support" couple of years ago, and hence no new firmwares.

Many other older (no-longer-supported) 3rd party speakers were just left by their manufacturers on the old firmware and then you couldn't group them any longer, but JBL actually updated the firmware on the older speakers so they still work. Truly excellent customer service!! (edited)

Very good price! I would buy them if I didn't already have 4!! Cracking speakers!
    Damienzz's avatar
Are you able to stereo pair 2, then have the other 2 around the house as singles?
  15. tonysun's avatar
This price is normally for one. Cracking deal thanks OP!!

Damn. Just bought last week at £75. Still a good deal.

You need the Googlr Home app to setup for voice activation but not sure about bluetooth.

Good sound (similar to my Pure Discover - only looking to replace for the waterproof rating) My only comment would be they take a while to power on currently testing to see how long they last last being switched on without sny use (i would only use in bathroom / wet area).

Any idea how these sound compared to UE Mega Boom?

    Thanks

Really wanted to buy these, but after looking further, very limited on Radio stations as you can't seem to change the default TuneIn, do no voice control available for any BBC stations or Absolute radio stations.
    dufus124's avatar
They have all the same stations and controls as any other Google home device. Just set your default services in Google home app

This is a great deal. I’ve got a variety of Google home nest, nest hub and nest hub max and a couple of sonos ones. Where does this fall in comparison, sound quality wise?

Can someone explain how to stereo these. I have done just about everything that can be done 20 times over, & they don't play together in mono let alone stereo. I can play each one on it's own. Thanks for any help.
PS Just got them to play together, but no stereo. (edited)

Select one of the speakers in Google home app. Select settings, then I think go into audio and there should be a setting to pair the speaker. Pair with the other one and check which is left Vs right

Both need to be switched on and maybe double check they're both on the same firmware & castware (edited)
  26. HOTPOT's avatar
Thank you. I don't think there was an option to pair, but I will take another look. How do I check firmware & castware?
    Tonycv51's avatar
It shows in device information in settings in the home app. Just check it's the same on both in case ones updated and the other hasn't

Nightmare. Black Friday deal looked good, so I messaged the dealer to ask if they could be stereo paired, he said yes A FEW HOURS LATER, so went to order & they had gone up in price. In spite of protests that I had been waiting their reply they would not sell them at the offer price.

Now the recent offer. I immediately ordered some. They arrived but they would not stereo pair, & one only stayed on for 10 seconds no matter how many times I charged it. I contacted the dealer who told me to contact JBL direct. They said they could repair it. I didn't want a brand new item repaired so I went back to the dealer and was only offered money back, so I would lose the offer. In the end I decided, against my better judgement, to get them repaired. I was given a repair number & where I could take them to the pick up point, all were 10 mile round trip or more. On the printed form our local Morrisons was given, so we trundled down there. They refused to take them because their locker was full, mainly because the last lot of parcels had not yet been picked up. They gave us another pick up address, so off we went, but they were closing down and no longer accepted parcels. So back home contacted repair direct & they arranged for the speakers to be picked up. The story continues...
