”The A170 is a refined, capable speaker that draws the best from recordings, and punches way above its bargain price.” ’Sound & Vision’ – Top Pick.

Stage A170 – big sound from a modest speaker
Compact proportions but packing a mighty punch, the JBL Stage A170s make the perfect choice for when you want a big sound from a speaker that doesn’t dominate the room. Twin woofers and a double-ported cabinet give the Stage A170 the power to impress. The small footprint and discreet design means it doesn’t shout about its ability.

Stage top end detail
Giving the music you love that top end ‘bite’ you’d expect from JBL, the 25mm aluminium dome tweeters project a crisp and detailed sound. HDI (High Definition Imaging) waveguides precisely focus the sound, giving it the cohesion to match the sparkle.

Deep and punchy bass
Using twin 5.25 inch Polycellulose woofer units, the A170 punches way beyond its size. The long-throw woofers push the sound well into your room, immersing you in the music and giving the feeling of being ‘there’, live at the recording. Thanks to the bass reflex cabinet design, you also get the same, rich and well-balanced sound at lower volumes, too. These are efficient speakers that don’t need a mighty amp or big volume levels to deliver that special JBL sound.

‘Pro-look’ cabinet
Just like the JBL speakers you see at gigs, cinemas and studios around the world, the Stage A170 is finished in the professionals’ choice – matte black. The textured finish is hardwearing and is the ideal match for many black hi-fi and AV separates. White woofer detailing, curved baffles and discreet logos make the finishing touches to this classic speaker.

Get thrilling JBL sound, from a discreet floorstanding speaker, with the JBL Stage A170.

Anyone got these? How would they compare with, say, Monitor Audio Bronze?

Ideally test them by bringing in your CD player and amp. The results are likely to vary widely depending on what is hooked up to them.
Cd players all sound the same.

You should be able to get a in store demonstration before purchase, might be worth it if you are undecided .
Yeah, good idea, wife got me vouchers for Xmas, so what a good way to get value from them?

Peter Tyson are selling the Monitor Audio Monitor 200 Floorstanding Speakers (3G Series) for £229 delivered might be worth checking out.

In store exclusive. Good luck finding any
Easy, you go in store and they order them in for you, you dont pay until you collect and you can even demo them before committing to buying them. (edited)

Interesting. Specs are kind of uninspiring and JBL is a mass-produced mid-range brand as part of the Harmon Kardon group. Wondering what justified the £499 original price - are these an unknown hidden gem in the range?
At £199 they are a gem, my only complaint isnt really a complaint but they are a little bright at high volume and they're not the prettiest without the grill.. but the sort of volume that hurts your ears .. at £499 they just arent worth it, so much competition in that range that just do things slightly better, only slightly but for £500 that's a deal breaker.
