Lovely replacement for the recently damaged Samsung Galaxy S3!!!

Details

JCB has announced its very-own rugged Android device, the Toughphone Pro Smart.

The Toughphone Pro Smart is a fully-touchscreen Android device, running Gingerbread.

This will equip the phone with one-touch access to all of the usual pre-loaded applications, along with some apps from JCB.

This touchscreen will sit within the phone's yellow-and-black industrial casing, which comes with an IP67 certification rating.

This means the phone is resistant against scratches, dust and up to 1m of water, alongside any nasty falls from your pocket.

It may be billed as a "rugged" handset, but users will also find a decent 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, an 800MHz CPU and up to 32GB of expandable storage.

There's also 3G and WiFi onboard, offering an all-round slick internet experience.

are they purposefully trying to make the specs crap?
A 2GB microSD? How much more expensive would a 4GB, or even 8GB, or even 16GB card be for that matter!? Would be ok for a £50 phone to save on cost, but not a phone over £300!
Buy a good phone, a case and screen protector.

Everyone I know who is a tradesman or works In construction just has a normal phone.
My Galaxy S2 fell out of my pocket while i was on my motorbike last week - it hit the tarmac at 60mph.
It still boots up. I know cos I can hear it even if the screen isn't there anymore

In your haste to post that incredibly insightful comment I think you must have missed the "rugged" bit in the thread title.

Next time, try comparing like with like.
These are a ripoff. You can get tough phones much cheaper. I know someone who used one of these at work, and it kept going wrong.

For a builder these are perfect. My old man has a Motorola Defy and it has been through the wars and still lives today. Any other phone (other than a nokia 3310 ) would not last a few weeks!

I agree
I wouldn't really want a builder who is incapable of not destroying a normal phone. If you can't manage to keep a phone safe I think you should stick to the old can and string..

All it takes is one little drop from top of scaffolding or to have something hit your pocket, or just to fall out your pocket and there's goes the screen. Not to mention if it gets wet!
Samsung b2710 - about £60 - bog standard dumbphone that is robust and waterproof and the battery lasts for a week or so.
Large glass screens are always a weak point.
If you really are in a risky environment where you are likely to damage a phone, you probably should be aware of what is going on around you and not be spending your time browsing the internet on it.

I have to agree... as a Motorola Defy owner I think it's apretty good tougher phone but think if I was on a site I'd get a Samsung Solid and leave the Moto in the car. These large glass screens (even though they're often Gorilla glass) can and do smash if you're unlucky.
