Best French films to watch..................

In Jean De Florettes an old man and his only remaining relative in a rural French village cast their covetous eyes on an adjoining vacant property. They need its spring water for growing their flowers, so are dismayed to hear the man who has inherited it is moving in. They block up the spring and watch as their new neighbour tries to keep his crops watered from wells far afield through the hot summer. Though they see his desperate efforts are breaking his health and his wife and daughter's hearts they think only of getting the water. In the sequel, Manon Des Sources, Manon (Beart) has grown into a beautiful young shepherdess living in the idyllic Provencal countryside. She determines to take revenge upon the men responsible for the death of her father in the first film.

Superb - both of them.

And yes, I know, watching subtitled movies is not an experience that is usually enjoyable - but these are the exceptions to the rule. The pace of the story, together the the acting, landscape and general atmosphere make for a very entertaining night.

I have these on video tape - and then I had to buy from USA - and had been looking for a DVD version for a while.

Thanks OP,

These are two great films.

I like all movies that have a guy called John. And movies with wells (I like movies with wells).

i dont even speak french, but Jean De Florette was excellent

Excellent price for two great films...

Great films. Good price. Thanks!

Thanks OP, excellent deal for two excellent films.

Two outstanding films that I paid a lot more for a few years ago. Worth the price then a steal at this price. Many with recognise the music from Jean de Florette as it was used in Stella Artois advert for a long time.

Music is Verdi's Force of Destiny overture- you won't stop it going round in your head for ever!

If I hadn't already paid more at HMV, I'd have snapped these up. As stated, brilliant filming and acting. Bottle of red wine, some bleu d'auvergne, winter fire, DVD player and a plasma TV bought thanks to HUD...mmm...

Two great films, try and watch them both at the same sitting (superb twist in the tail at the end).
Worth it just for as Emmanuelle Beart (Manon in the second film) is beautiful.
She actually married Daniel Auteuil (Ugolin) in real life!

Superb films, both of them, and a genuine steal at this price.

Agree. Great price, classic films.

First subtitled french movie i ever watched, this movie encouraged me to try other subtitled movies some french some chinese and i have watched some gems.Watch artois the goat for a western attempt at the same "style" of movie..a failure in my opinion but an attempt non the less.

Superb films. Probably the greatest french language films ever made.
In the second film, Emanuelle Beart is just stunning. oO

Same price at HMV + you get quidco.
