Personally I don't like braided cables as over time they form kinks but a lot of people see it as a sign of "better" quality... that beind said PoundLand does sell braided 1m Lightning/Micro USB cables for £1 and they also sell the basic quality 1m Lightning/Micro USB cables for £1 so... yes I agree with your comment that braided doesn't show a clear sign of quality. Durability yes but the quality of components... no.

Be very careful with usb c cables - quality much more important than in the past due to potential for significantly more power to be sent down them. there’s a google engineer testing cables and would check there first before buying these or others
