Some good deals in Jessops Big Bank Holiday Sale including a Canon EOS 500d with 18-55mm lens for £670.

The Nikon D5000 + 18-55mm VR Lens also looks to be a good price at £649:

Don't know if the attached voucher will work for 5% off.
Also don't forget 4% quidco.

Link for the ]Nikon D5000.

Used to be a fan of Jessops until I reserved their last 40d in a store 40 miles away .
On going to collect it they tried to fob me off with the display model as new for the new price.
What a joke they are becoming.

Already have the lens as our old 400d broke. For body only, big bag and 8gb card it's £599 minus £20.83 on quidco

This is great entry level DSLR.. I bought my when I went back to Japan. for £600 you can get EOS 500d + kit + 8GB SDHC lol ^^ but not bad price for UK considering warranty.

When you say entry level? What is the next one up and its benefits? I assume you would class the 50D as mid level?

Yes 50D will be mid level. The quality of the body, (500D made of plastic) but for 50D you will have to give up video recording function.

Recording without autofocus is useless anyway. Come on Nikon/Cannon, where is in-body VR and 10+fps paparazzi burst mode?

Edit: Checking Camera Price Buster.co.uk regularly I can see Jessops have increased the price of the D90 kit from £740 ish to £800 in preparation for this sale. Voted cold.

You voted cold because of the D90? What about the 500D and D5000 that are actually mentioned in this post?

I really don't get all the cold votes - if you can find these cameras cheaper with a UK warranty post it. :x

Cheaper else where in the market...

I think £599 - £20(ish) quidco is an excellent price for the 500D body only....

So the main difference in the EOS 500D and 50D is the body??

I've been looking at prices for the 500D kit the past couple of weeks....to be totally honest, the price is not super. Amazon have it at £677.99 with free delivery here:

amazon.co.uk/exe…OLE

initially i thought the Jessops deal looked great, but if thats the going price at the moment then I wouldn't personally jump out of my seat to get it just yet. Also, the attached voucher doesn't apply sadly.

Anyone else reckon the prices are likely to come down a bit more by the summer? I know its a new model and unlikely to be cheaper by much. Or perhaps another EOS cash-back deal (though they're doing one on the PowerShot at the moment)

The prices have been £679 for the EOS500D and £649 for the D5000 for a while.

Scroll down to the bottom.

I think it will be cheaper but also think its good to be able to get the amazon price on the high street if you need it ASAP

Actually they haven't!

I have been keeping an eye on the price for a while and today is the first day it's been at this price which is why when you look at it on camerapricebuster it has the icon which corresponds to a new lowest price.

It is now lower on Amazon by a couple of pounds but it wasn't when I posted it this morning, and with Jessops you get quidco.

But Amazon are not throwing in the SanDisk Ultra II 8gb SDHC card with the deal. So is Jessops still the better deal??
