I think that's a different model. The container/cooking vessel is smaller.
Can you do actual "cooking" in this, or does it just heat up those camping food pouches?
Neither. Only thing this is good for is boiling water. Anything else other than that, it’s just an expensive gimmick.

They are not for cooking with as such. They are mostly for just boiling water extremely quickly and efficiantly. They are great for dried foods like noodles etc but boil in the bag stuff works well too.
gimmick but good spot.

It isn't cheap granted, but I'm not sure why you dismiss it as a gimmick? I've seen lots of user reviews, including youtube comparisons which seem to rate the Jetboil as really good.
It’s great if all you want/need to do is boil water. For actually cooking anything it’s useless.
I've cooked in one and the time spent scrubbing burned food off the inside negated the time saved. However, you can buy a standard pot attachment which gives a larger surface area for heating so less stickage. I've not tried that though.
My son's just come back from his DofE practice expedition where someone had one of these. It was useful for getting the water boiling quickly to then be chucked into pans on the other stoves, saving time and fuel. Not that that's much use to a single camper, but in their group of seven it worked out quite well.

Thats the zip, slightly smaller model
I’ve had mine since 2004. It’s great for a morning cuppa (almost as fast as a leccy kettle) or for warming some beans. The auto ignition still works & it’s dead light. No good as the only heat source for cooking but I always take mine camping whether solo or with the family.
hhm.. I never really got camping since the nearest Tesco/restaurant is 10 minutes away, but hey some people like make life harder than it needs to be and I don't blame them
Trail Magazine are currently offering a Primus Eta Lite stove as a free gift if you subscribe for a year: greatmagazines.co.uk/tra…ine
If you're not interested in the magazine or the digital OS map subscription it also comes with, that's still comparable with this just for a stove. Sorry, "cooking system".
Would this be good for hiking in the peak district? i want a nice light stove.

Jet boils are great for wild camping or hiking. Essentially they are very good / quick / efficient at boiling water, so for making hot drinks or dehydrated meals (such as noodles etc)they are perfect. If you get the smaller gas canisters everything packs inside the ‘mug’, taking up very little space
It's the only cooker I take when I go wild camping and weight is everything. Can't be beaten in that regard. If you have a base camp or you're on a proper camp site then you may aswell use something bigger that you can actually cook on.

To give my opinion on the product. Why bother breathing?

Breathing is involuntary. Unlike your stupid comments.
Might not be to everyone’s liking but it’s a cracking bit of kit. It’s a god send to anyone in the military. To be able to get a quick brew or enough hot water for a wash an a shave.

Many a time I’ve been able to fit a boil in a bag in the cup. I wouldn’t recommend cooking in it tho.

Also can use code 10EXITVC for 10% off
They're excellent for boiling water and very good for cooking as long as you have the cooking adapter. Try cooking in strong wind with a cheap stove and you'll understand why these are not a gimmick.
Also, you can get an amazing adapter which turns it into a French coffee press!
